The Acer Aspire One, with its 9=inch screen, served me well all these months of owning it, but the AAO D150 turned out to be a worthy contender, not only to Acer’s other notebooks but the notebooks of its competitors, as well. Already available in numerous countries across the world, Acer’s Aspire D150 netbook just got an official press launch in France yesterday. And Netbook3G was there to snap a few photos and cover the said launch event. The Acer Aspire D150 configuration for France is still the same as it is elsewhere — 10-inch screen, 160GB HDD, 1GB RAM, 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU. It’s exactly the same. Netbook3G took the opportunity to inquire about Acer’s slimline ZG8 model during the press launch, and the company refused to give any comments regarding the said product. Hopefully, they’ll be more than accomodating next time and tell us exactly what that unannounced netbook is.

Photos of another 10 inch netbook from Acer have surfaced on the web. The new 10 inch netbook, at first glance appears very similar to the recently released D150 and could easily be mistaken for it. However at closer look, the ports on the netbook have changed positions, which indicates this isn’t the D150 and Acer are working on another 10 inch netbook.

With the ports being rearranged, this netbook has a different motherboard to the D150 and is also slightly slimmer by 26 millimeters. The battery is also noticeable rounder than that of the D150. The minor changes in the netbook gives it a new model number of D250.

The reason why we still don’t have the 10-inch Acer Aspire One in stores is because Acer is working to “make sure all the top components are ready in this new model, from panel to battery and computer processing unit.”

This is according to Acer chairman J.T. Wang in a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal. Wang also mentioned that the screen they used for their upcoming 10-inch netbook is “brighter and more saturated” that those Asus used on the equally sexy Eee PC S101 (probably true, but the flame war that could result from this is definitely not necessary).

Currently, netbook sales account for about 30 percent of the company’s overall notebook sales, so that’s good news for Acer’s netbook division. We’re going to see just how better the D150 is when we finally get it in our hands, and we’ll give you an update then.
