If you are curious about Windows 8′s gaming capabilities, then you will do good to take a look at this demo that Microsoft made regarding the Metro-style Xbox Live application that’s going to be present in Windows 8. As you may already know, Windows 8 is the upcoming, next-generation version of Windows, a “reimagination” of the ubiquitous desktop OS that’s been fully redesigned to be touch-first and very tablet-friendly.

According to Avi Ben-Menahem, a Microsoft principal program manager lead who spoke at the recently concluded developer-focused BUILD conference in Anaheim, California, Microsoft will be “bringing everything you know and love on Xbox 360 and Xbox Live to Windows.” Windows 8′s very own Metro-style Xbox Live app will serve up “multiplayer functionality between two Windows PCs, between Windows and a phone or between Windows and the Xbox 360,” added Ben-Menahem.

At the moment, it’s not yet know when exactly the Xbox Live app for Windows 8 will become officially available. But then again, Microsoft hasn’t given us the exact release date of Windows 8 either. The real deal will most likely be dropped some time in 2012, though, and until then, if you want to see more of the Metro-style Xbox Live Windows 8 app then you can watch the video embedded below to tide you over.

The integrated graphics which most netbooks come out with are pretty unimpressive, especially considering that their full-size counterparts (read: laptops) that are getting released these days tend to have some sort of dedicated graphics of their own. But in some instances, Intel’s GMA graphics chipset is able to hold its own when it comes to games and HD video, and this was proven in a recent demonstration at a Mobile Dev Camp event in Germany.

Pictured above is Quake III running at an average of about 35 FPS on an external monitor while connected to an MSI Wind U115–running Linux! Moblin Linux, that is. Intel’s Atom Z530 processor and GMA 500 graphics work in tandem for this one, and it’s pretty good work indeed. The same netbook was also demoed with other mobile devices playing HD video rather competently. To see the netbook in fragging action, continue reading for a video after the break.
An Eee PC running Android was showcased earlier today for Computex 2009, not by Google nor Asus, but by Qualcomm Technologies. The chip company is pushing for a new generation of mobile devices called “Smartbooks” that will be powered by their so far convincing 1GHz Snapdragon CPU. Asus itself has been rumored to be planning on launching Android-based Eee PCs soon, while other parties such as Freescale Semiconductor have also announced plans to introduce Android netbooks before the end of the year.

In a video recorded by TweakTown as a Qualcomm product manager demonstrated the Android-powered Eee PC to them, it can be seen that the open-source smartphone OS works fairly well on a netbook, although if it will actually be useful in real world situations (not to mention a worthy alternative to Windows and other popular netbook operating systems) is still in question. In any case, it is evident that many companies are working together to make Android on netbooks an attractive reality, so let’s just sit back and watch what happens. See a video of the Eee PC running Android with a Snapdragon CPU after the break.
Not more than two weeks ago, we showed you a netbook that we thought was called the Wistron Firstbook. As it turns out, it was actually the Wistron Pursebook, and it was demoed at CTIA 2009. Like we already mentioned, this device runs on a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and Linux, and looks much like the trackpad-less Sony Vaio P (measures about the same size, too). For those of you interested in learning even more about the device, a video demo is now available. Follow the links below to watch it.
