Epson, Onkyo, Viewsonic as well as other smaller companies have reportedly contracted Taiwanese laptop makers to build ultrathin notebooks for them, which could help drop the initial prices to $599(456 EUR).

According to unnamed sources, the companies mentioned have contracted Pegatron Technology and Elitegroup Computer Systems(ECS) to build their Ultrabooks. Pegatron, in particular, plans to begin mass production of no less than five Ultrabooks in April and May this year, while ECS is said to start shipping two such ultraportable machines until the end of the second quarter.

For now, no details were released about the actual specifications of these Ultrabooks, but there are reports that their prices will be between $599 and $649 US(456 to 494 EUR). The cheapest Ultrabook on the market today is the Toshiba Portege Z835, which sells for $799.99 (594 EUR). This, however, is only a Best Buy exclusive deal, as its regular retail price is actually set at $929 (689 EUR).

Intel has developed Ultrabooks in order to counter the ever-increasing popularity of tablets, which are eating away into the PC market. However, the high costs associated with both manufacturing and the hardware needed for such ultrathin laptops have kept Ultrabooks from becoming as widespread as Intel has hoped for.

With the Computex 2009 happening soon, some netbook manufacturers are probably prepping up their new lineups in time for the said event. One of them is ECS which has gone ahead of the competition and had sent feelers for its three new netbooks – the ECS T10IL, ECS V10IL and ECS T21IL.

There are still very few information available about these ECS netbooks. But from what we’ve gathered the ECS T10IL will have a 10.1″ display in 024 x 600 resolution, either a HDD or SSD storage, Bluetooth, WiFi and modem 3.75G.

The ECS V10IL will have a 10″ 1024×600 resolution, 160GB HDD and HSUPA Modem while the ECS T21IL will have an 11″ display with 1366×768 resolution and an Intel Celeron Culver CPU instead of Intel ATOM.

There you go, first three netbooks to get you excited about the upcoming Computex 2009. We’re pretty sure there will be so much more announcements in the coming days.

French website Clubic.com has posted pictures and a report stating that Airis will be updating their range of netbooks to include the G10IL in the near future.

Airis have been releasing low cost computers for a while now and so are no stranger to the netbook world. The G10IL will push the other models aside which are mostly powered by the VIA C7-M CPU.

The G10IL however features an Intel Atom CPU, a larger keyboard, 8.9 inch display as well as it’s unusual touchpad with LED lights built into the mouse buttons.
