If you’ve always wanted a touchscreen monitor but were afraid to gut out your netbook, Pen And Free has a solution for you via the Duo for Laptop. It’s a clip-on device paired to a pen to turn your netbook into a tablet, though you don’t get to swivel it into a real tablet without a mod.

Eeeuser member Cms has done them one better by modding his Asus Eee PC 1000HE and putting inside the messy USB plug of the Duo for a classier tablet experience. I especially like the way he put it on the side for symmetry with the pen holder and for easier book reading plus the awesome skin and OS he’s got. More pics here plus I think he also added a GPS device in there.

Frankly, the steps are tedious and you must take all the necessary precautions in case something went wrong in the installation process. Of course backing up the files on your Eee PC is an SOP.

Well, if you have been closely following this blog (I hope you do), you’d remember that two weeks ago, I got my Eee PC 1000H  thinking that the Eee PC 1000HE won’t be available in our region until the next couple of months. But a few days after I got my 1000H, I saw an online distributor offering the 1000HE already. I think I’m having a NAS (netbook acquisition syndrome) right now. NAS is a variation of GAS (gadget acquisition syndrome).  If you have been closely following this blog, you’d remember that I just got a new Eee PC 1000H last week. I got it because I really need a replacement for my Eee PC 701 which I already sold to a good soul. And I thought the Eee PC 1000HE would not be available in the Philippines until two months or so. But then, some online sellers from Manila started selling the Eee PC 1000He. I quickly ordered without thinking what I’m going to do with the Eee PC 1000H. The Eee PC 1000HE was delivered to me this afternoon. And here are some photos and my initial impression of the Eee PC 1000HE.(...)

The Asus Eee PC 1000HE is a slight variation of the Asus Eee PC 1000H. It comes with pretty much the same exact features as the original, and in fact it also has the same chassis. But it does sport a slightly better processor, the Intel Atom N280 chip, as well as a much-improved chicklet-style keyboard. LaptopMag was able to get their hands on an Asus Eee 1000HE unit recently, and their first impressions show that this new model is a downright improvement over the old one. Their full review won’t be ready until next week, but until then you can read through their preliminary comments and watch a video showing the Asus Eee PC 1000HE in action.

Like we reported not so long ago, although quietly, Asus has officially announced the new Eee PC 1000HE. Available now for pre-order here, the Eee PC 1000HE boasts of great features that are sure to make the netbook market exciting anew.

Here’s a complete rundown of the Eee PC 1000HE’s features and specs:

• Intel Atom N280 processor
• Super Hybrid Engine technology
• 10-inch LED Backlit LCD screen
• 92%-sized chicklet-style keyboard
• 802.11 Wi-Fi
• Bluetooth
• High-density battery that provide 9.5 hours of usage
• 170GB hybrid storage (160GB internal HDD, 10GB online storage)
• 3.2 lbs.

Of course, the most exciting feature of the Eee PC 1000HE which would surely attract netbook/notebook users is the 9-hours battery life. According to the press release, this was made possible by the combination of the battery to the Super Hybrid Engine.

Asus is currently offering a $25 discounted price for the Eee PC 1000HE for a limited time. This will be deducted to its introductory price of $399. So that means you can get the Eee PC 1000HE for $374. It will be available in Fine Ebony Black and Blue in North America.

First up we have the Eee PC 1000HE and Eee PC 1000HAE. Both netbooks belongs to the Eee PC 1000H series, and both sport chicklet-style keyboard. This keyboard also has the right shift key placed on the left-side of the up arrow. The netbooks also has reduced bezels providing more surface area among keys.

What makes these two Eee PC 1000′s stand out is the fact that they will have 6-cell batteries with each cell of the battery having 2.6 2.9 amps as compared to the usual 2.9 2.6 amps. What this means is that their battery can last up to a few good more hours, which according to Asus is around 8.7 hours. So, that’s extended battery life for you which probably explains the additional “E” on the branding.

As for the difference between these two netbooks, the 1000HAE won’t have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth features.

In addition to these two netbooks, Asus also displayed the Eee PC 1003HG Go which obviously is bragging about its 3G feature. Aside from that, the Eee PC 1003HG Go is pretty much your old Eee PC 1000H variant.

Lots of Eee PC to watch of for in the coming months or so right? Interesting times ahead for the netbook industry indeed.
