We don’t hear a lot about netbooks these days, and yet the category is arguably what set the whole consumer electronics industry on the fast track to delivering smaller, more powerful, and longer lasting devices for mobile computing. The guys over at Notebook Check recently put one of the latest netbooks from Asus’s stable through a full review, and here’s what they’ve found. The Asus Eee PC 1011CX netbook may pack rather mediocre, yet standard netbook specs these days: 10.1-inch 1024×600 resolution LCD screen, 1.6GHz Intel Atom N2600 processor, 1GB of RAM (not upgradeable), and 320GB of HDD storage, but it’s still worth taking a look at because of the nearly 12-hour battery life. That thing about the RAM being soldered and not upgradeable may be a major drawback for some, but for most casual netbook users, this is actually quite adequate. At the same time, the Asus Eee PC 1011CX sits at a very attractive price point. Certainly much more attractive than most tablets and smartphones out in the market right now. Read the full Asus Eee PC 1011CX review via the link below.

After being officially unveiled at the CES 2012 fair last week, Asus’ Eee PC X101CH and Eee PC 1025C notebooks are now available for pre-order in the US.

For only $269, you can get the Eee PC X101CH, powered by an Intel Atom N2600 dual-core processor clocked at 1.66GHz, with 1GB of system memory and a 320GB hard drive. The X101CH comes with 802.11n Wi-Fi, low-res webcam and a 3-cell battery that can doperate for up to 4 hours.

Meanwhile, the Eee PC 1025C that costs $299 also boasts the same Intel Atom N2600 processors as well as 320GB hard drive. However, this machine includes a 6-cell battery, which Asus claims to deliver up to 4 hours of autonomy.

Both systems sport a 10.1-inch LED-backlit display with a native resolution of 1024×600. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 3.0 as well as an HDMI output. They also support for the WiFi Direct technology that allows users to share date between devices without the need of a wireless access point. However, the real star is the Intel N2600 processor, which is designed to bring enhanced multimedia capabilities.

There’s no word on when the two netbooks will be shipped to the US. So customers may have to wait a bit longer before they could get their hands on one of these awesome machines.

It’s now official with the company’s new Eee PC Flare 1025C, X101CH and 1025CE netbooks, and without ado let’s get down to basics. The 1025C sports built-in Intel UMA graphics (720p output), a 10.1-inch LED display (1,024 x 600), N2600 dual-core GPU at 1.6GHz, 1GB of DDR3-1333 memory, integrated Altec Lansing stereo speakers, a hard drive of 5,400RPM, 0.3 megapixel webcam, a set of USB 2.0 ports, an Ethernet port, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, 2-in-1 media card reader and HDMI /VGA outputs. The entire machine tips the scales at 1.2kg, while housing a six-cell (56WHr) battery which is allegedly to take you some 10 hrs of usage. It ships with Windows 7 Starter, and a $299 will get you one in black, blue, pink or red in February.

Another great piece is the 1225B, a 12.1-incher that gets powered by AMD E-450 dual-core chip at 1.6GHz, graphics included, native resolution at (1,366 x 768), 2GB of DDR3-1333 memory, a 5,400RPM HDD, a set USB 3.0 sockets (and a separate USB 2.0 socket), a 0.3 megapixel webcam, WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0 plus a 2-in-1 media reader. It should press your lap at 3.1 pounds including a six-cell battery, and a (32-bit) Windows 7 Home Premium OS onboard. For color fanatics – well, you’ll be smacked in black, red or white. Ultimately, the Eee PC X101CH’s entry-level should steal $269 affording you a 10.1-inch panel (1,024 x 600) resolution, integrated graphics, 1GB of RAM plus the standard complement of ports.

Asus has added a new such model to its Eee PC lineup, the 1225B, which is powered by an AMD Brazos E-450 APU.

This is actually AMD’s most powerful E-series accelerated processing unit to be manufactured as it packs two computing cores clocked at 1.65GHz as well as a Radeon HD 6320 built-in GPU with 80 shader units. These usually run at 508MHz, but the integrated graphics core also comes with a special Turbo mode to increase the speed to 600MHz.

The rest of the Asus netbook doesn’t seem to differ much from all the other Eee PC models as it also gets an 11.6-inch LED-backlit LCD panel with a resolution of 1366×768, a low-res 0.3MP webcam, wireless LAN and optional Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity, as well as up to 7 hours of battery life with the 6-cell power pack.

The AMD accelerated processing unit can be paired together with a maximum of 4GB of system memory, and the storage options include a series of 2.5-inch hard drives with capacities ranging from 320GB to 750GB. The Eee PC 1225B packs three USB 2.0 ports, a multi-format card reader as well as VGA and HDMI display outputs.

The Eee PC 1225B will start at about 349 EUR, approximately $456 US, but you can get this at a lower price from some online sites.

Another notebook called the Eee PC 1225B has just popped out on the ASUS website this weekend. While it still has more unofficial details, the model number suggests the new machine will be having a 12.1 inch display and an AMD processor. In other words, this should probably follow the Asus Eee PC 1215B which was released earlier this year.

There are few retail websites that listed some of its additional details. There are rumors that the laptop could have a 1.65 GHz AMD E-450 dual core processor, 4GB of DDR3 memory, a 500GB hard drive and Radeon HD 6320 graphics. Other features could include USB, VGA, HDMI, WiFi, Bluetooth, VGA, and HDMI.

The Eee PC 1225B might show up at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, next year. There’s no word yet on its availability and pricing, but with all the mentioned features. This may be one of ASUS’s best notebooks yet.

There were recent reports that said demand for the Asus Eee Pad Transformer is so high that it actually sold out in some stores where it became available. But the truth, as it turns out, is that several branches of Best Buy and Target simply haven’t even received their supply of the Eee Pad Transformer yet, which led to them declaring the device as sold out to some of the people who actually showed up to buy it. Apparently, the delivery date of the Eee Pad Transformer to these certain stores has been pushed back to mid-May at the earliest, so it really can’t be had at the moment no matter how hard you try. Whether it is actually sold out or not really has nothing to do with it.

In an investor conference held last April 29, Asus revealed that it recorded a net operating margin of 4.68% and a gross margin of 15.52% during the first quarter of 2011. They made the most sales during this quarter in the Asia-Pacific region which accounted for 48% of sales, followed by Europe at 37% and other regions at a combined 15%.

In a detailed breakdown, it was revealed that 56% of overall revenues for Asus during Q1 2011 came from notebooks, 19% came from motherboards and cards, 11% from others, 1% from handsets and just 13% from their Eee PCs. This 13% of revenue actually translates to 1.3 million units shipped, and Asus is planning to hit the same number of shipped units for the second quarter of 2011. With the release of the Eee Pad Transformer, perhaps sales of their Eee PCs might even increase.

Somewhere in Austria and Germany, Asus has just unveiled a new powerhouse netbook dubbed – Eee PC 1015PW. This new Eee PC netbook boasts of Intel Atom N550 Dual Core Processor, 10.1-inch display, 250GB HDD, 1GB of RAM and an extra 500GB storage via Asus’ WebStorage where you’d get free one year access to the server and store your photos, movies, and music collection.

Design-wise, the Eee PC 1015PW sports a striking, corrugated surface structure and comes available in designs with shades of purple, pink and gold. The Eee PC 1015PW gives you a netbook running on 6-cell battery pack which could probably max you out for more than hours of usage.

The Eee PC 1015PW will hit the Austrian and German market sometime in December.

Asus are to revamp some of their entry level netbooks and the latest iteration will add DDR3 memory support, instead of the standard DDR2 memory. The Eee PC 10001PQ, 1001PX and 1005PC will all be upgraded and be named the 1001PQD, 1001PXD and 1005PXD. The D is added to Asus netbooks which have DDR3 memory, as well as the N455 processor. The current netbook models have the N450 processor, so with regards to performance, you probably won’t see much of a difference.

Each of the netbooks has been listed on the Asus support site, however there’s no word on when they will go on sale. Likewise, pricing information is also unknown for the time being.

While some people love their netbooks and other devices to be shiny and glossy, others simply hate the glossiness, or rather how much of a fingerprint magnet glossy surfaces can be. From phones to iPods, netbooks are no different. A glossy lid is a haven for fingerprints. Fortunately, there is a way around this without having to buy a new netbook. If you’re brave enough to attempt this anyway.

Over at LifeHacker, Jason has taken a scour pad to his Asus Eee PC netbook. Yes you did read that right, a scour pad. He says ultra-fine 000# grade steel wool works just as well as the green 3M Scotch Brite pads but, the scour pads proved to be easier to press flat to the netbooks surface. Jason took the scour pad and worked in wide circles over the glossy lid, creating a swirling brushed steel effect which will eventually makes it look like it’s been dusted over with white powder. He advises that after a minute of light buffing to use a slightly damp paper towel to wipe away the dust. This will make the lid look glossy again but, after a few moments of drying it will reveal a matte finish. Jason repeated this process three times and used different circle sizes each time, to create a “uniform look”. Do you hate the glossy lid of you netbook that much to do this?
