Foxconn already has everything ready for the iPad department in order to meet the market demand for iPad 3 in February. The Chinese new year will begin on January 23, 2012, and Foxconn has nine days off for the workers in other departments.

There are news that Amazon and Apple will be having a showdown for the first half of 2012 as they are now preparing new versions of Kindle and iPad. The updated Kindle Fire is expected to have an 8.9-inch touch screen. Foxconn will be making the new tablet for Amazon and will begin production in the first quarter next year, in time for launch in the second quarter. Apple’s third-generation iPad will debuted around the same time. The new iPad 3 will have a 2,048 x 1,536 pixel display and is scheduled to be released in March.

The iPad still tops the tablet computing market. It would set up an intriguing head-to-head clash next spring between Amazon and Apple. Nevertheless, Foxconn will still be the biggest winner since it will be producing the latest tablet for two companies.

Back in June, Mobinnova introduced the Elan netbook, a new portable computer that offered 5-10 hours of high definition video viewing thanks to it being based on NVIDIA’s Tegra platform. It has been showcased recently and according to a report from DigiTimes it has already received orders from telecom service providers in Europe and North America, where it will appear before the end of 2009. Foxconn has been identified as the primary manufacturer of this Tegra-based “smartbook” while it is said that Compal Communication is also supposed to make one before year-end. Apart from supposedly excellent high-definition video playback and slightly longer battery life (than average), there doesn’t seem to be anything special about Tegra. I suppose I will have to see when I get my hands on a unit of my own for testing.

Yesterday, there was a report on the Chinese-language Commercial Times that said Foxconn was stepping into the white-box netbook market in China. Well, today a new report has surfaced and it says Foxconn has denied its supposed move to sell white-box netbooks in China, having filed an announcement of firm denial with the Taiwan Stock Exchange. So much for being the newest entrant into the netbook category.
