Now that  Chrome OS has officially been unveiled, Google is getting aboard the netbook train as well. It’s been their plan to talk to manufacturers like HP, Asus and Qualcomm and discuss how to integrate the new operating system in their future netbooks.

Well it seems Google is zooming in on a single manufacturer instead to build the new netbook directly for them. They are planning to sell it under the Google brand as opposed to bundling the OS with another firm’s devices. Spec-wise, the only thing for sure known is that it will be mobile enabled with the possibility of a carrier subsidy thrown in. You’ll have to wait on this one though, since the slated release is going to be in the holiday season of 2010.

Google is plunging right into the hardware game with this new netbook and the Nexus One smartphone. Personally, I have no doubt they’ll become a major player in the netbook game in no time with all the great apps they make that can be bundled into these devices at the low, low price of free. As we say here locally about netbooks: the more competition, the better it is for us the consumer!

“What’s particularly interesting about netbooks is the price point. Eventually, it will make sense for operators and so forth to subsidize the use of netbooks so they can make services revenue and advertising revenue on the consumption. That’s another new model that’s coming.”

the article’s author then make a brave prediction that the Google Netbook is coming by the second half of 2009. More particularly a Google netbook powered by Linux.

If the netbook market’s growth continues as it is right now, and knowing fully well that consumers are really getting into affordable computing, Google may very well release its own netbook. After all, who would have taught the Google will be coming out with a mobile phone, right?

But the Google Android mobile phone was actually an HTC manufactured handset. Would Google follow the same with its netbook? Which netbook manufacturer would get the privelege of coming up with the Google netbook? Any guesses?
