The HP Mini 2140 is a model of netbook aimed primarily at the business user and rumor was that Hewlett Packard will be replacing the model with a ‘Mini 2150‘ model which would come installed with a 3G module although, the last news on the Mini 2150 netbook was January.

We recently reported that the anticipated high res display model of the HP Mini 2140 would be available from the 6th April. There’s been no set backs or delays and we can now confirm that the high res model is now available to purchase. So if you’ve been holding off on grabbing the Mini 2140, there’s no need to wait any more, you can head over to the HP website and get the upgrade. More great news is that the higher resolution, while it does make the netbook a higher price, does not make it over priced. The upgrade will only set you back an additional $25, making the upgrade cheaper than that found on the Dell Mini 10 high res model.

Want a netbook with a higher resolution display than 1020×600? Well it looks like your wish would soon come true in the upcoming HP Mini 2140 with a 1336×768. Liliputing was able to confirm the release of the set HP Mini 2140 variant from an HP product manager a few weeks ago, but Digifitti published a more concrete date – April 6, 2009.

The HD screen will be offered as an optional upgrade for the HP Mini 2140. And it will cost you an additional $25 from the current price point of the HP Mini 2140 in the market.

Althoug the availability date was confirmed by an HP Sales Rep with Digifitti, we still doubt as to whether this true or not. But one thing is for sure, a new HP Mini 2140 with High-Def Resolution display is coming by April 2009. So hold off your plans to buy an HP Mini 2140 right now and wait for a couple of weeks more, unless you don’t really mind the current 1024×576 display resolution of the HP Mini 2140.

The 6 cell battery version of the HP Mini Note 2140 has been photographed by HP 2133 Guide, as well as comparison pictures of the 3 cell model. The 3 cell model is as you’d expect, sleek, slim and sexy. The 3 cell battery only runs for about 4 hours, where as the 6 cell battery can considerable increase this time by more than twice as much. Liliputing reports that the 6 cell can run for 10 hours if the 2140 has an SSD, but is reduced to 8.5 hours with a HDD instead, but either option provides more battery life.

Unfortunately the extra life comes at the costs of it’s look. With the 6 cell battery in place, the 2140 is no longer as sleek or slim, but rather bulks the netbook up and adds a bit of weight to the netbook. Fortunately though, it isn’t too unsightly unlike other increased battery life batteries and more than makes up for the extra bulk with the extra hours unplugged usage.

We’ve seen the HP Mini 2140 compared to it’s little brother, the HP Mini 2133 and we’ve also had a look at the insides of the 2140 and now, thanks to Brad at Liliputing, we have some shots of the 2140 with HP’s other 10 inch netbook, the HP Mini 1000.

Both the 2133 and 2140 share the aluminium finish, giving the netbook a professional look, as well as providing an excellent keyboard, which is very easy to use with it’s wide keys. Specifications wise though, the 2140 shares the features found on the 1000, including an Intel Atom N270 processor, giving the 2140 more power than the 2133.

The HP Mini 2140 is described as being the “business class” version of the Mini 1000, owing to it’s looks, unparalleled build quality and fantastic keyboard. The 2140 takes portability to a new level with Drive Guard technology, meaning if you drop it while travelling, the hard drive will be shut down, reducing the risk level of lost data. While portability is a high priority of the 2140, with it’s glossy screen, the netbook is hard to use outside and suited more to indoor use.

Other differences in the netbooks include a full sized VGA port on the 2140, as well as the Mini 2140 being slightly heavier and thicker. Unfortunately the number of USB ports on the netbook hasn’t been increased and remains at 2.

The folks over at HP 2133 Guide have shared some more photos of the HP Mini 2140. This time however the pictures focus on the internal workings of the netbook. Yup, they’ve taken the 2140 apart, minus the screen.

Both the top and bottom sides of the motherboard are on display as well as the empty shell and with the top shell off. It’s noted that the 2140 is much easier to dissect than the HP Mini 2133, which they’ve also photographed taken apart. The chassis of the 2140 has less screws holding it together than that of the 2133, which also reportedly is harder to remove the top part of the case.

Apparently HP are also offering buyers the option to install SUSE Linux rather than a Windows operating system.
HP is joining major computer players in the CES 2009 frenzy with the launch of their new netbook called the HP Mini 2140. Featuring a simple and yet refined all-aluminum case and lightweight design, the HP Mini 2140 will surely please HP Mini fans with the new upgrade to their favorite HP Mini 2133.

Quickly, we have the following specs of the HP Mini 2140

Intel Atom processor

10.2-inch diagonal scratch-resistant HP Illumi-Lite LED display

80GB SSD or HDD

92% full-size QWERTY keyboard

VGA webcam

Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0

2-cell or 6-cell battery pack

HP Dura Keys

HP 3D Drive Guard

HP Panel Protection System

Those specs are certainly not your one-of-a-kind specs but considering that the quality of the previous HP Mini 2133 netbook, we sure have reasons to be excited for the release of this new HP Mini netbook. Fortunately, it will be released sometime this month with a price tag of $499.
