Lenovo have today launched their newest netbook, the IdeaPad S10e. It will have a starting price of £299 when it becomes available at the end of the month and can be purchased through Lenovo and Lenovo Business Partners.

The S10e features a 10.1 inch display, Intel Atom processor, up to 1.5GB RAM, either a 4GB SSD or a hard drive of up to 160GB. The netbook comes installed with either Novell SLED 10 Linux or Windows XP Home or Pro.

Lenovo’s S10e, weighing in at under 1.2kg, is aimed at consumers and business users, looking for a lightweight and mobile computing option.

Lenovo is supplementing its recently released netbook with a new version that is geared for grade schoolers, particularly in grades K-12. This netbook is almost similar to the Ideapad S10 except for the addition of the “e” hence making it as the Ideapad S10e.

Marketing the netbook to the academic community, the Ideapad S10e is customized to meet the requirements of students, teachers and other members of the education sector. With features similar to the original Ideapad S10, the S10e offers Internet connectivity features to enable students to do online research, sharing and collaboration tools, and email, social networking and other web applications. It also features basic functionality for word processing and light multimedia presentation functionality.

The Lenovo S10e would also come with a web, a 10.1-inch display, quick start feature for instant access to email, Internet browsing, video conferencing, photo viewing, or listening to music. In addition, the S10e will have several choices for its OS – Windows XP Home or SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop from Novell.

The netbook will also feature either a 4GB SSD or 160GB HDD. Naturally, it is powered by the Intel Atom processor.

Other features of the Ideapad S10e include; Ethernet, WiFi, optional Bluetooth, and ExpressCard 34 slot

Lenovo offers a variety of customization options including hardware technologies, educational software and flexible warranties to fit the individual needs of schools. Choices of operating systems include Microsoft Windows XP Home or SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop from Novell. Designed to handle the rigors of student computing, the netbook comes equipped with a 4 GB solid state drive for reliability or a hard disk drive up to 160 GB.

The Ideapad S10e is slated to come out sometime in November at some Lenovo education sales and business partners.
