It wasn’t so long ago that something is written about the IdeaPad Yoga tablet/ultrabook hybrid. Now, Lenovo has expressed its belief as to what this device type can accomplish.

IdeaPad Yoga possesses the functionality of a tablet as well as a super-thin and light mobile personal computer. This “hybrid” computer was introduced, during this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2012).

Peter Hortensius, senior vice president of Lenovo’s product group, believed that Yoga is a good example to determine what’s ahead for the industry. This is similar to how some people think that tablets were the new face of the consumer IT industry.

After the iPad and Android slates began to appear, many thought that laptops will become obsolete, while others believed that slates won’t last that long. The truth, however, is that notebooks are doing just fine, while ultrabooks appear to be steadily gaining steam. As such, it is quite possible for hybrid devices like the Yoga to transform the market, but not to the point where it becomes unrecognizable.

Google Android will be launching upgrades to the latest version of the popular platform that will suit users of said tablets.

After its launch last July 2011 with Android Honeycomb, there has been no move to upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich apart from this one, and many have been feeling that it has been long overdue.

The SDK for Ice Cream Sandwich itself has been released on October 19th last year, while the open-source code was launched on November 14th. Since then, many Android tablets have upgraded to the new version, and many have been manufactured running specifically on it.

Lenovo users, nonetheless, have plenty to rejoice about with this update. For the two tablets, Ice Cream Sandwich is expected to deliver enhanced performance and computing speed.

There are also several changes to the UI, including new virtual buttons, a new typeface, the arrangement of widgets, and a new layout for the gallery. Other improvements include one in the copy-paste function, error correction, camera app, automatic browser syncing, screenshot capture, voice integration, tabbed browsing, and data usage settings.

The Lenovo IdeaPad s200 ultraportable notebook has features of a netbook, but sports a full-sized keyboard and display of a larger notebook. The notebook features an 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 resolution display, an Intel Atom Cedar Trail dual core processor and a 32GB solid state drive.

While the company isn’t going to change its netbook lineup with larger computers though, a Lenovo rep confirmed that the company will soon bring an IdeaPad S110 netbook to market, a 10 inch mini-laptop that’s virtually identical to last year’s S100. The new model will have the same Cedar Trail processor as the S200 though.

While the IdeaPad S200 will offer netbook-like performance, the Cedar Trail chip can support HD video playback even without HDMI output. The larger keyboard and screen should also make a big difference in making the machine feel like a full-fledged laptop. A USB 3.0 port is present as well. The touchpad features integrated mouse buttons as well as the battery doesn’t seem to be user-replaceable. Lenovo will also offer an S206 model with an AMD Fusion processor.

It will be offered soon for $349 and up.

Looks like Lenovo is about to add another Android tablet to its lineup for 2012. The new device, called the IdeaPad A2, is like a souped up version of last year’s IdeaPad A1 budget tablet. Like its predecessor, the new model has a rollcage build for durability. Furthermore, the IdeaPad A2 has a 9-inch display, 1280 x 800 resolution as well as SRS audio fur users to enjoy their multimedia experience.

The Lenovo IdeaTab A2 weighs 1.3 pounds. It runs on Texas Instruments dual-core processor and it is operated by Google Android 4.0. So, potential buyers who are craving for Ice Cream Sandwich would definitely enjoy this. The tablet also has 16GB of storage. While a 3G model is in the works, Lenovo is planning to offer a WiFi-only model for a start.

There’s no sure report yet on its availability or pricing. However, the price for IdeaPad A2 is expected to be around to that of A1.

After it was out for pre-order on Lenovo’s website earlier this month, the IdeaPad U300 Ultrabook is now available on Newegg. The IdeaPad U300 notebook sold on Lenovo’s online costs $1,199, whereas it is listed at a rather pricy $1,599.99 on Newegg.

Compared with the model available for pre-order from Lenovo’s website, Newegg’s IdeaPad U300s comes with a faster 1.8GHz Core i7 chip and a higher-capacity 256GB SSD. Nevertheless, it still has the same looks in other respects. This means that the Intel processor is supported by 4GB of RAM, while the HD 3000 integrated GPU found inside Intel’s Sandy Bridge CPUs is paired together with a 13.3-inch screen with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels.

The IdeaPad U300 also features 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0 and Ethernet options. It also comes with an USB 3.0 port and support for Intel’s WiDi wireless video streaming technology. Other specs include a HDMI output, an external DVD writer, a 1.3-megapixel webcam as well as a battery pack that allows the machine to operate for up to eight hours.

The U300 Ultrabook also has a breathable AccuType keyboard together with a stylish glass touchpad featuring easy zoom, scroll and rotate functions, making it even more appealing for the customers.

While we may never get to lay our eyes on the final version of the Lenovo Skylight, Freescale has surprised us with a new Lenovo smartbook put together by Pegatron. Being a smartbook, it has the innards of a typical smartphone running under the hood. This includes an 800MHz ARM Cortex A8 processor, a memory controller that supports DDR2-400 or mDDR-400 up to 200MHz, a NEON coprocessor with SIMD architecture, digital audio subsystem that supports multichannel SPDIF output, controller, Fast Ethernet, FIR ( Fast InfraRed), a GPU with 2D and 3D acceleration core dedicated OpenVG and OpenGL / ES and a decoding engine with support for HD 720p/1080i.

According to the gang over at Notebook Italia, Freescale’s MC13892 power management IC makes it possible for the smartbook to run without needing active cooling or even passive cooling, a claim which I personally find hard to believe (though I’m not saying it’s impossible). The battery life, they say can rival a standard mobile phone. The form factor on this one is very nice and looks like it’ll beat any smartphone or tablet PC by a long shot. More details about it are expected to come out soon.

The hardware of the netbook allows for easy access so adding the modem was no trouble and there was even an antenna already built-in. He did have to do some BIOS hacking to get it to work but once that was done, all that was needed to get it running was to install the necessary software and drivers. Voila! 3G connectivity!

If you have the guts to flash your BIOS (which can brick your netbook if not done properly), check out the details in the link below.
