Following on from the rumors that Dell and HP will be pulling out of the netbook game, Dell have come forward and have said that the story is not true but, was part of an April Fools joke by “sources”. Consumers do still prefer netbooks over tablets and Dell see the Inspirion Mini 10, as an “important member of our mobile platform portfolio and is a great secondary companion device as people appreciate the compact size and the ability to stay connected on the go”.

The Mini 10 still has a lot of life left in it and you can be sure it isn’t going anywhere soon. T-Mobile will be offering the netbook up with a data plan, while Clear will offer the netbook with WiMax support later in the year.

Dell have already launched their Mini 10 with WiMax, however that was the older model, with an Intel Atom N270 CPU. The updated Inspiron Mini 10, with the PineTrail CPU will also be updated to include WiMAX. Clear will be providing the 4G service for the netbook. The WiMAX enabled version is due to start shipping from April 1st. It also appears that, the netbook may not be available direct from Dell, as Clearwire have said it will only be available “through select Clear retail locations, telesales and Clear.com.”

The WiMAX enabled Mini 10 will set you back $250 after rebate. There’s no information on how much per month the tariff will be but, it’s likely to be $40 based on other netbooks.

Most carriers already offer netbooks with a 3G modem at a subsidized price. Currently AT&T, Sprint and Verizon all do this but, T-Mobile doesn’t. According to TmoNews though, this could soon change.

It appears that T-Mobile is getting ready to offer the Dell Mini 10 netbook. They would be offering the latest version of the Mini 10, with an Intel Atom Pine Trail CPU and Windows 7 Home Premium. Reports are unclear on whether the netbook will ship with 3 cell or 6 cell battery.

Currently, T-Mobile offer a webconnect package. For $29.99 a month, you can get 200MB, or for twice as much a month, you can get a 5GB data plan. This is just a rumor at the moment but, if it turns out to be true, we could see the Dell Mini 10 from T-Mobile at the end of March.

Now, this isn’t any formal announcement yet when and how much it will sell for but it’s a great start if you want to future-proof your netbook.

WiMAX is not yet as widespread as 3G is in most parts of the globe but it’s getting there. WiMAX has a longer range than WiFi and can deliver 10Mbps over the air. We probably have to wait a bit for this since it just launched the base model of the new Dell Inspiron Mini earlier this year.

The latest iteration of the Dell Inspiron Mini 10, replaces previous Intel Atom processors with the new N450 Pineview CPU. Also added in the latest model is GMA 3150 integrated graphics. Dell have also changed the look of the latest model.

Brad over at Liliputing received a demo unit to review, which he’ll be doing in the next week or two and until then, we have his unboxing video and thoughts on the netbook, in the video below. Upon unboxing, the first thing you’ll notice is the shiny plastic case, along with the battery not fitting snug with the back of the laptop instead of “sticking out like a sore thumb, arm, and leg.” The keyboard has also had a makeover and now have a space between the keys, making touch typing easier.

Dell couldn’t wait any longer for CES 2010 that they decided to announce the new Inspiron Mini 10, now loaded with Intel Pine Trail Platform, aka N450. They probably want to earn the distinction of being the first to release a new netbook with this new CPU.

Anyway, the new Inspiron Mini 10v will be available starting January 5, 2010 in the U.S. and January 7 in all other countries. It will run on Windows 7 Starter Edition or Windows XP and later on Ubuntu 9.04.

Another new feature of the Inspiron Mini 10 is its design and form factor. It now have textured palm rest area that is more finger-print resistant. There is also a touchpad with integrated mouse buttons.

The new netbook will also have several customization options including Bluetooth, 3G and GPS. It will also feature Broadcome Crystal HD Media Accelerator and a TV Tuner.

There will be 7 color design of the new Inspiron Mini 10 - black, white, blue, purple, red, green, and pink.

For battery, there are several options to choose from, either a 3 cell battery pack and two types of 6-cell battery packs.

Realizing perhaps that the female netbook/notebook computer market is steadily growing as more and more netbooks/notebooks geared for women are getting popular, Dell decided to launch its own specialized shop called Della. Nothing fancy here really, just your usual specialty shop highlighting some Dell products which were designed with the women users in mind.

And of course, highlighted in the store is Dell’s very own Inspiron Mini 10 netbook which sports several girly designs from well known artists. Expect to see the pink-colored Mini 10 all over the site as well as some fashion accessories that women will surely love to have on their Mini 10.

You can find all sorts of accesories for your Mini 10 at Della. From netbook sleeves, bags, and girly-looking mouse.

But the major highlight of the site is of course the Mini 10 with various girly designs.

Della has some social networking features. So, if you’ve got a techie girlfriend or wife, you may want to tell them about Della where they can participate in the discussion and join the site’s social networking activities on Twitter, MySpace and Facebook.

In this month’s catalogue from Dell there’s several great saving offers on from the Mini 10 to the Inspiron 17. An interesting find on the very last page reveals an even cheaper Mini 10 model for $299. The new model denoted with a v, the Dell Inspiron Mini 10v will be released mid May for $100 less than the current Mini 10 model. Not much is cut back for the $100 either. The hard drive is reduced in size from 160GB to 120GB which is still adequate. The processor used has also been changed. The 10v will use the more traditional CPU of the Intel Atom N270 instead of the Z series Atom processor.

While information about the new Inspiron Mini 10 has already showed up on Dell’s site a couple weeks ago, it is only now that it is being launched in Japan. We already told you that this new Inspiron Mini 10 would have an HDMI output and a display screen with high res 1366×768 ratio, right?

Well aside from those two major specs, the Dell Inspiron Mini 10 would also be loaded with the new Intel Atom Z520 1.33GHz CPU (single core). This is in addition to other standard 10-inch netbook specs including 10-inch LCD, 160GB HDD, WiFi, and 1.3MP webcam. As a bonus feature, the said netbook would also have GPS and Bluetooth capability.

Now does that sound enticing? Unfortunately no words yet as to when the new Inspiron Mini 10 will be available. So, you might as well stay tune for more infos in the coming days.
