It looks like a feature that was supposed to be available out of the box on day 1 was just added to all available units of the Dell Inspiron Mini 10 all across the world. This high-res screen option was also introduced in the recently launched Dell Inspiron Mini 10 netbooks in Japan, with the Intel Atom Z520 chips. It costs a $35 upgrade from the regular Dell Mini 10 configuration, but to some it may be well worth it. The options for configuration are available on Dell’s web site, linked below.

Since it first went up for pre-order, I’m sure some of you would like to know how exactly the Dell Inspiron Mini 10 functions in real life. Good thing Laptop has already finished reviewing their Dell Mini 10, and has shared their thoughts about the said netbook in a full-sized review. Overall, they’ve deemed the netbook good, especially when it comes to text input with the slightly larger keyboard it’s got than most other netbooks. The built-in HDMI port pretty much becomes an accessory because its use of an Atom Z530 processor couple with Intel’s GMA 500 graphics aren’t enough to handle 720p video playback properly. Otherwise, it’s a netbook worth taking a look at, if the odd trackpad doesn’t throw you off in the first place.

Dell has published photos with instructions on how to disassemble and upgrade or replace components of the Inspiron Mini 10. In these photos, it is revealed that replacing the hard drive and wireless card is quite difficult, as it requires removing the keyboard. And by removing the trackpad assemby, one can gain access to the spot for the optional TV tuner, Atom CPU and RAM. Unfortunately, the RAM is soldered to you won’t be able to upgrade it to a higher capacity. In any case, these photos will surely help out anyone looking to peek inside the Dell Mini 10’s innards. More photos at the link below.

NetbookNews.de has done a comparison photo shoot between the Samsung NC10 and Samsung NC20. If that unboxing video still wasn’t enough to tide you over, I highly suggest you check out NetbookNews.de’s gallery. They’ve even thrown in a little bit of the Dell Inspiron Mini 12 for good measure. What’s evident is that the Samsung NC20 is far larger than the NC10, though both seem to sport the same keyboard, and same material used in their chassis. The arrangement of the ports on the side have also changed a bit from the Samsung NC10 to the Samsung NC20, but overall it still looks very user-friendly. Meanwhile, it appears as if the Dell Mini 12 is a bit larger than the NC20. But they’re still definitely portable, more so when you pit them against similar-sized lappies from other manufacturers. Don’t take my word for it, see all the photos in the comparison gallery for yourself.

Dell recently held a press conference in France in which it officially launched a 3G version of the Dell Mini 10. The photo you see above was taken by the guys from over at Netbook3G, and other photos comparing it to the Asus Eee PC 901 Go are also available on their site. The absence of a button on that trackpad is very evident, though it doesn’t look like it’s going to be much of a problem. If you a refresher as to the Dell Mini 10’s specs:

Atom Z530 CPU

1GB RAM

Multi-touch Trackpad

160GB HDD (No SSD models currently)

10” 1024×576 Display (HD screen will also be available 1366 x 768 I think)

Wi-Fi N, Webcam, 3G Broadband, GPS, TV Tuner

Windows XP Home

3-Cell or 6-Cell Battery

The completely opened up Dell Mini 12 shows that there’s a lot of room for improvement (i.e. plenty of empty space), but that also tells us that Dell didn’t bother at all to make the thing as compact as they can. In any case, if you want to have a peek inside the Dell Mini 12, now’s your chance. Go see the photos at the site linked below.

Pricing of the Mini 12 has been altered and Dell have also added the installation of Windows XP to the model and some would say, it’s about time, as Vista slowed the netbook down according to reviews.

The official product page for the “after-market” drives, states that the 16GB SSD will be priced at 4,800 Yen (around $52 US, although on the announcement page the price is stated as 5,300 Yen which is around $57 US) and that the 32GB solid state drive will cost 9,400 Yen, approximately $101 US). That’s around the same price that Dell charge for the 32GB SSD upgrade when you purchase a Mini 9 from them now, so Buffalo are presumably aiming their product at current owners of the Dell netbook that wish to boost their Mini 9’s storage capacity.

Both drives are available from early this month, in Japan. There is no news on whether Buffalo will roll the SSD’s out to the rest of the world as yet.

Dell’s Inspiron Mini 9 was released in Europe with 3G capabilities, with some network providers having a deal on their tariffs and the netbook. When the Mini 9 was released in the US it was missing the 3G module as it was deemed “too expensive“. Today Dell have announced that the netbook can now be ordered with the 3G module.

Michael Dell,CEO, last week confirmed that they were signing more wireless providers up as partners for it’s new netbooks. At the time, no date was given, but it is now possible to pick up the netbook with an embedded WWAN (Wireless Wide Area Network) for $125 more. WWAN will only be available on Windows XP models of the Inspiron Mini 9.

AT&T have already got on board and are offering a $120 rebate if you sign up for a two year contract with them.
