The Sony VAIO M has been updated to include an updated processor. Upon launch, the VAIO M featured the latest processor at the time, the Intel Atom N450 PineTrail. The company have now updated their netbook to include a newer processor, the N470. The N470 improves processor speeds and is clocked at 1.86GHz, compared to the 1.66GHz of the Intel Atom N450.

You’ll be able to buy the updated VAIO M for $399 in a choice of blue, pink, or white. Other specs haven’t been updated though, which will come as a disappointment to those looking for the increased resolution of 1366×768, as found on their first netbook, the VAIO W. The resolution will instead stay at 1024×600, which is standard for netbooks, on a 10.1 inch display. The netbook also features 1GB of RAM and 250GB.

This was promised by HP during the CES 2010 event earlier this year, so it’s not really surprising to know that you can now have the HP Mini 5102 with the option to upgrade its Intel Atom N450 CPU to the recently released Intel Atom N470 1.83GHz CPU. The good news is that the upgrade will only cost you $25.

Unfortunately, this deal is applicable only for the regular-priced HP Mini 5102 which is tagged at around $518 price point. So if you add the $25, you’ll end up buying an HP Mini 5102 netbook with such powerful processor for $543.

Compare that to buying the HP Mini 5102 via HP’s “Smart Buy” option wherein you only need to pay around $399 with specs such as 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 CPU, 10.1-inch display, Windows 7 Starter Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 4-cell batter and 160GB of HDD.

But then, the HP Mini 5102 with Intel Atom N470 processor also boasts of Broadcomm HD card, 1366×768 matte multitouch display and SSD.

You may check out the deal here.

Expect more new netbooks to come out in the coming months as I’m pretty sure manufacturers will start beating each other out as Intel is set to announce a new Atom Processor – the N470. Of course, this is an improvement to the current N450 which was just introduced recently.

So, what would this new Atom CPU has to offer for us netbook fans? – an increased clock speed of 1.83GHz from the current 1.66GHz. Of course, I guess you may have known by now that every increase in those numbers is equivalent to a faster processing performance for our beloved netbooks, right?

With those said, there will surely be another of influx of new netbook announcements in the weeks or months to come.

If you’ve been wanting to have a netbook with 2GB of RAM inside but don’t have the nerves to wreck open your netbook, well you may want to wait until March when Intel finally allows manufacturers to have 2GB of RAM in their netbooks.

Come March 10, the new Intel Atom N470 which is based on the Pine Trail-M two chip platform will now support 2GB capacity RAM. The N270 has a clock speed of 1.83 GHz, enough to be fully supported by the 3GB RAM.

Currently, netbooks are either sporting the Intel Atom N270 and N280 with clock speed of 1.6GHz. A new processor the N450 is scheduled to be released in January 2010. But netbooks with this CPU would still have 1GB of RAM.

Other possible details of new netbooks to come up once the Intel Atom N470 is available include – Moblin Linux OS, storage guidance up to 20 to 32GB SSD drive or 160GB mechanical hard drive. Screen sizes of future netbooks will vary from 7-10.2-inch. The only let down would have to be their battery life which is expected to go down to a mere 4-cell or less.

Price wise, these new netbooks could go from $299 to $349.
