Specs of the two netbooks include – 2GB of RAM, USB 2.0, USB 3.0, HDMI port, SD/MMC card reader, and two-cell battery. Both weighs in at 2.9 lbs and can have as much as 500gB of HDD or 32GB SSD.

CES 2012 is about to start this week and already tech sites who are covering the annual techno event are already pouring in with their reports of new gadgets and devices to be displayed during the show. Of course, we here at Eee PC Blog will be bringing you the latest in the tablets and netbook front.

So for starter we have Lenovo announcing their new IdeaTab S2, a 10.1-inch tablet with a detachable keyboard dock that will remind you of the Asus Transformer tablet. Yes, Lenovo is giving the Asus Transformer tablet with a serious competition because this Lenovo tablet is not coming out with run-of-the-mill features. Although power-wise, the Lenovo IdeaTab S2 may not have the same prowess as the Transformer but it will be running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for its OS nonetheless.

The IdeaTab features a qualcomm dual-core Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 processor and up 20 hours of runtime. Full details are still scarce for now, so stick around as we bring you more information about this new Lenovo tablet in the coming days.

The ultrabook concept initiated by Intel aims to combine the power and capabilities of laptops with the light and thin form and responsiveness of tablets. The Lenovo U300S is one such example of this new breed of ultraportable computers. Here’s a summary of what some tech reviewers say about this device.

At about 3 pounds, it’s a little heavier than the Toshiba Portege Z830 but lighter than the Asus UX31. It’s as thin as what you would expect of an ultrabook being only .6 inches thick. With length and width dimensions of 12.8 x 8.5 inches, it can easily sit on a small cluttered desk as well as fit in the same bag where you used to stash your old netbook. The one-piece aluminum casing however gives the U300S a sturdiness that belies its shape.

The glass touchpad seems to be the exceptional feature of this ultrabook. The U300S’ multi-touch system has no problems out of the box. This sets it apart from some of its contemporaries that may need some patches or driver updates to get the multi-touch feature working without a glitch. The keyboard’s layout is well-thought out too as it offers much spacing between keys to make typing quick and easy.

Lenovo seems to have skimped with the U300S’ sockets. There are only two USB ports, one HDMI, and the usual mic and headset jacks. The reasoning is perhaps that with a highly portable device, you shouldn’t need too many peripheral connections. If you prefer wired Ethernet connectivity, you’re out of luck as there is no such port provided.

In the performance and responsiveness department, the U300S fits well enough into the ultrabook specifications. It can boot up Windows 7 Home in around 34 seconds and its battery can last an average of 6 and a half hours with moderate usage. The final retail version coming out is said to have either an Intel Core i5 or i7 processor and 4 GB of RAM. This device is a work-oriented machine and that’s just to be expected as this has always been Lenovo’s forte.

manufacturing business laptops

and have shifted to consumer

laptops for a while. And the

G570 is certainly one of them.

The laptop possesses a little

more style and flair than its

business-class oriented

counterparts. It sports a

glossy lid and a metal palm

rest. But the amenities than

one gets from the professional

laptops of the ThinkPad series

are all present. The amenities

include an AccuType keyboard.

Add to that a fast Intel Core i5

processor and a roomy 500GB

hard drive. The G570 looks pretty

bland when closed, except

stooping a bit towards the back.

 A bright chrome Lenovo logo

adds a bit of personality, but

the glossy plastic dark-brown

lid is a fingerprint magnet.

The notebook's interior looks a

tad bit more appealing, mainly

due to its black brushed-aluminum

deck. The touchpad is also

slightly recessed and surrounded

by a thin strip of lighter chrome.

With a weight of around 5.2

pounds, its relatively light and

is comfortable to move around

with it. Lenovo packs an island

-style keyboard with a full

number pad on the G570. The typical

“smile shaped” keys are generously

spaced on the keyboard and

provides nice, firm typing

experience. The 3.5 x 1.7-inch

touchpad has slightly raised dots,

creating a pleasant texture for

the fingers to glide on. The two

large touch pad buttons are

appreciable which clicks firmly.

Where display is concerned, the

G570 comes with a glossy and bright

15.6-inch anti-glare widescreen

display with a native resolution

of 1366 x 768. The speakers are

also quite powerful enough to

fill a small room. Coming to

ports, the right side of the

G570 houses a USB 2.0 port, a

DVD burner, a headphone jack,

and a microphone jack. On the

front sit a 5-in-1 card reader

and a wireless on/off switch.

The left side features three USB

2.0 ports, one of which doubles

as an eSATA port. There is also

a HDMI port, VGA, Ethernet, and a

Ken-sington secure lock. The G570

can handle practicably any task

that’s thrown at it thanks to the

2.3-GHz Intel Core i5-2410M CPU,

4GB of RAM, and a 500GB, 5,400-rpm

hard drive. Although the laptop

comes loaded with an integrated

Intel HD Graphics 3000 card, yet

it lacks on the gaming experience.

But it scores high on the battery

backup segment. During the battery

test, the G570 hasted well around

4 hours and 52 minutes, outlasting

the category average. The added

bonus with this laptop is that it

comes with Lenovo OneKey Recovery

to back up your system files or

create a recovery disk, as well as

Lenovo DirectShare for sharing your

files and photos with another

notebook via USB cable. To some up,

the Lenovo G570 offers a solid

computing experience at an

affordable price.

Lenovo’s ThinkPad T Series has long had the reputation of being the gold standard for business notebooks. The T410 is the latest 14.1-inch addition to the series and with its stunning performance and hardware, it promises to take on other competitors quite handsomely. Design-wise some of the most attractive elements of the T400s have made their way unto the T410, including the more angular shape of the sides, and the new keyboard / LCD light layout. This new look is more on the evolutionary side than being revolutionary, making the system look much more modern and attractive. The material in use gives the laptop a stylish new look, besides making it durable at the same time. Coming to its keyboard, it sports the same keyboard found in its predecessor and which many simply loved and adored. It features the strong tactile feel which made Lenovo famous, along with new, enlarged Esc and Del keys. Similar to the other thinkpads the T410 possesses both a TrackPoint pointing stick and a touchpad. The TrackPoint has a lot of takers mainly because it’s highly accurate and allows one to navigate the desktop without lifting their fingers from the home row. Howeber, for a lover of touchpads, one will love the extremely accurate, textured surface on the touchpad. It also supports multi-touch gestures such as pinch-to-zoom and two finger scroll. Unlike some touchpads we’ve used, zooming in and out is smooth and accurate. The ThinkPad T410’s 14.1-inch LED backlit screen is available in two resolutions, 1280 x 800 and 1440 x 900. While still images and games looked good on the T410, but it faltered while playing video playback. Playback was smooth but dark areas were filled with obvious visual noise and pixilation. The sound quality is not as good as expected and the full volume is not loud enough. But as far as ports are concerned, they are in abundance. The right side of the chassis contains an ExpressCard/34 slot as well as an eSATA, a powered USB, a FireWire 400 port, an audio in/out port, and a Kensington lock slot. The left side houses VGA, Ethernet and Display ports, a Smart Card reader and three more USB ports, pushing the total tally to four USB ports. The front lip houses a 5-in-1 card reader for transferring files from cameras and other devices. With its 2.53-GHz Intel Core i5-540M, the ThinkPad T410 scores high on the performance side. The 320GB 7,200-rpm hard drive is capable of booting Windows 7 (64-bit) in a speedy 45 seconds. The ThinkPad T410 is available with a standard 6-cell battery or an extended 9-cell unit. This is usual for laptops in its class and nothing over the top. Thus to some things up the T410 is a good buy at an attractive price.

Acer Taiwan president Scott Lin knows that tablet PCs are currently selling like hotcakes. Yes, as someone who leads a company that sells devices being taken over by these slate-like contraptions on the market, Lin is bound to realize just how much of an impact tablet PCs are having on computers such as notebooks these days. Well, the tablet PC may be enjoying its ride in the waves of success right now, but according to Lin, upcoming Ultrabooks such as the Acer Aspire S3 will be the ones having the last laugh. Lin’s theory is that since ultrabooks can go toe to toe with tablet PCs not just in terms of performance but also in terms of thinness and lightness, consumers will soon realize that it’s ultrabooks that they want to buy instead of another iTablet from some fruity company in California. Lin bets that Windows 8-powered ultrabooks will be the prime driving force of PC makers in taking the market back from tablets. In a few months, we should be able to see if there’s any truth at all in what’s been said above.

The said laptop comes with the Core i5-2410M, i5-2520M, i5-2540M, or i7-2620M processor, all with dual CPU cores. It also sports the e integrated Intel HD graphics or the Nvidia Optimus switchable GPU solution combining the Intel HD with the 1GB NVIDIA Quadro NVS4200M dedicated video card. Along with it, the laptop flaunts of 8GB of DDR3 memory, a solid hard drive Ultrabay, which can be filled with an optical drive, secondary HDD or other Ultrabay-compatible parts. It comes with display options which include LED-backlight anti-glare 16:9 screens with 1366×768, 1600×900, or full HD 1920×1080 resolution. The displays have 60% color gamut and 220-nit brightness, except the 270-nit full HD choice with 95% gamut. When it comes to connectivity, it has a slew of options which includes wireless N, optional Bluetooth 3.0, optional mobile broadband, Gigabit LAN, and a 56k modem in select models. Among the other features, it sports a 720p HD webcam with mic which supports both private and conference chat modes, stereo speakers, 4-in-1 media card reader, FireWire 400 port, an ExpressCard slot, and four USB 2.0 ports. Expernal monitor output is also given via VGA and Display Port connectors. For people looking for enterprise-level security, there is also an optional finger print reader, optional smart card slot, optionally encrypted hard drives, and the TPM 1.2 chip. The battery is pretty impressive as well. On Optimus-powered models, the battery life is up to 28.1 hours with the 9-cell and optional 9-cell slice battery that mounts at the bottom of the laptop. The standard 6 cell and 9 cell batteries alone are capable of providing 8.4 to 14 hours of battery backup which is quite a thing. The weight is around 5.5 pounds and it comes loaded with a spill resistant keyboard with the TrackPoint in its middle and a multi-touch trackpad below it, a display lid made of carbon-fiber / glass-fiber hybrid, and a glass-fiber reinforced plastic bottom. The ThinkPad T520 runs on Windows 7 Professional OS and advanced system manageability is provided by Intel vPro technology. It has a Hard Disk of 160GB/250GB and 4-in-1 card reader. It consists of Multi burner/DVD CD multi recording and Optical WiMAX. Thus ThinkPad T520 offers the best combination of thin and light mobility and top performance features a business class user would require. It offers the perfect balance of mobility, manageability and security. It offers top performance and is just the thing that the top business class people needs. The advanced noise-suppression microphone plus keyboard noise reduction technology is top notch. Comfort also means peace of mind, which users will have from knowing the Lenovo ThinkPad T520 4240-4AU Notebook PC is durable and secure.

It’s a combination of a super-fast processor, lots of RAM, a discrete GPU, a high-resolution, high-gamut display and professional-level extras like a built-in Wacom tablet and a colour calibrator, all put into a transportable unit. It does not come cheap though and it sure will burn a nice hole in one’s pocket. As far as its weight is concerned, it is not too light either and will only accompany one in times of absolute necessity. It measures 41cm wide by 31cm deep by 4cm thick, the dimensions being necessary to accommodate the system’s large 17in. screen. The laptop is primarily aimed at targeting the professionals working on graphically demanding tasks, the screen is of paramount importance. The screen is uniformly bright thanks to LED backlighting; and — uniquely among mobile workstations — it can be teamed with an optional integrated Pantone hueyPRO calibrator to ensure accurate colour fidelity. The calibrator, which includes an ambient light sensor, sits in the large wrist-rest area, just above another unique option: a built-in Wacom digitiser, whose pen lives in a slot on the right-hand side. Next to the graphics tablet, on the right, is a fingerprint reader. It’s the most powerful laptop with the Intel’s Core i7-920XM Extreme Edition with 8MB of cache, running at 2.0GHz. The chipset is Intel’s QM57 Express and our review system came with 6GB (out of a possible 16GB) of 1,333MHz DDR3 RAM. The operating system is Windows 7 Professional (64-bit edition). It does not get much more powerful than this. A powerful graphics processor backs up the CPU’s power with the Nvidia’s Quadro FX 3800M, which has 1GB of dedicated video RAM. In terms of connectivity, the W701 has a Gigabit Ethernet (RJ-45) port at the back along with a 56Kbps modem (RJ-11) connector on the right which is pretty unusual. Bluetooth (2.1+EDR) is also present. The W701 has no dearth of ports either given its big chassis. here are three USB 2.0 ports on the right side, towards the front, plus a USB 3.0 (‘SuperSpeed’) port and a combined USB 2.0/eSATA connector on the left. Also on the left is a 4-pin FireWire (IEEE 1394) port and two ExpressCard slots (34mm and 54mm). Also the front has a multi-format flash card reader and a pair of audio jacks. It’s not finished yet. At the back, along with the Ethernet port, is a trio of video-out options — DVI, VGA and DisplayPort. The underside carries a docking station connector. The big laptop is backed up by a 9 cell battery which still feels a bit less for such a powerful machine. So its advisable that one should stay close to the main power connector if he/she is looking to work on it for long. To conclude, the ThinkPad W701 is an extremely well-specified and fast mobile workstation.

Lenovo manufactures, markets, and sells a variety of products including Lenovo ThinkCentre desktops, Lenovo IdeaCentre desktops, Lenovo ThinkStation workstations and Lenovo ThinkPad tablets and desktops. Lenovo has come up with a really budget notebook with the Z570 with a 15.6 inch display. It boasts of a Intel Core i5-2410M processor along with a 4GB DDR3 RAM (2x 2GB sticks), 750GB hard disk drive, 15.6 inch display, Blue-ray drive and Intel HD 3000 graphics. Also it has a stylish appearance with a piano black finish. It possesses a metallic palm rest and a large textured touchpad. Though the build quality does not match up to the standards of the Lenovo Y-series and far from the Thinkpad series (X200, X220 etc) still it’s pretty okay considering the price in which it is offered. The hinges feel quite strong and the 15.6 inches display has a nice glossy finish with 1366 x 768 resolutions. It is desirable that Lenovo should improve the resolution to 1600 x 900 or something as this was something users did not like about its predecessor, Lenovo Z560. The Z570 contains a lot of ports. It comes with a 3x USB 2.0 ports (including eSATA), LAN port, VGA, HDMI, SDHC card slot and Express card slot. There is also a wireless on / off switch on the front of the unit. It contains a island styled keyboard and has shaped keys that that makes it easy to centre the finger tips while typing. It feels great and comfortable to type on and has no signs of flex which offers a wonderful typing experience. It takes the help of synaptic touchpad with full support of multi touch gestures. The mouse buttons have a nice travel and soft feedback. The processor is powerful enough to handle 2 cores and 4 threads at the same time. Intel HD 3000 supports the graphics department. Only one thing which the laptop lacks is the USB 3 and one of the four USB 2 ports doubles as an eSATA connection. The IdeaPad Z570 cannot be too much criticized for the monetary part. Even today the USB 3 is yet to come into the market to make itself in demand and when one is offered a complete package with Blu-ray and switchable graphics for only £650, it’s hard to be anything other than impressed.

The powerful ThinkPad Edge is ready to take on any challenge one may throw at it. It offers really rapid computing experience with 2nd generation Intel® Core™ processors; speed and responsiveness with up to 8 GB of DDR3 RAM and large storage space with up to 750 GB hard drives. The visually demanding applications are met by Integrated Intel® HD Graphics which delivers a smoother experience. Boot time is also reduced with Lenovo Enhanced Experience 2.0. Besides a faster laptop, the E420/E520 will also help you work smarter with eco-friendly initiatives: packaging made out of 100 percent recyclable material and compliance with environmental standards (including ENERGY STAR, EPEAT® Gold and the RoHS Directive). Now with the E420, keeping in touch with employees, clients and rest of the world becomes much easier and handy with a slew of available connections: WiFi, Gigabit Ethernet, and options for WWAN, WiMAX and Bluetooth®. Also, during web calls one can easily switch the microphone to “conference room mode” to enhance multiple voices from across the room, and enable keyboard noise suppression technology so that note taking becomes much easier process. Now making an important presentation is no more a heavy task with the HDMI out port to project big ideas on the small screen. And as far as accessories are concerned there are loads on offer. While working in the office one can always attach the discrete Lenovo Video Docking port replicator for convenient cable management and connectivity outlets for a monitor, LAN and four USB 2.0 devices. The light weight and easy to carry ‘Lenovo 90W Ultraslim AC/DC Combo Adapter’ is very handy on the road and allows one to charge both the laptop and a peripheral device (like a cell phone) via an included dual charging cable at the same time. So over all the laptop is a very wise investment to make.
