The lucky guys at Engadget have been fortunate to get their hands on a retail version of the new netbook from LG, the LG X120 (1.6GHz Atom CPU / 10.1 inch screen / 160GB HDD / 1GB of RAM). They’ve posted up a number of images from the unboxing of the unit which can be found in the gallery with a handful of images from the event posted below:

Engadget seem impressed with the X120 from their initial unboxing inspection, noting the matte white finish on the exterior of the netbook, the high gloss finish on the interior and on the screen, the quality of the keyboard and the LG “Splashtop-powered Smart On interface” as being positive additions. The LG X120 certainly makes a good overall first impression.

LG X120
Besides Samsung, there is another famous cellphone-making company dabbling in netbooks. That, of course, is LG, and its latest model–the LG X120–is said to be on schedule for a release in the Japanese before the end of the month, followed by a wider release in April. All things considered, the LG X120 doesn’t really differ much from netbooks in its category. It’s got a standard 10-inch screen, 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, 160GB hard drive, 1GB RAM, Wi-Fi and either a 3-cell or 6-cell battery. It does sport an inbuilt HSPA modem, though, so it would be a great choice for mobile computing enthusiasts who are fond of doing work on the go.

Eager to read the first user reviews of LG’s upcoming X120 netbook? So are we. And we’re in luck, ’cause today we stumbled upon a quick preview of the said netbook from Linus Tech Tips. Well, it’s not so much a preview as just a showing off of an unpowered device that’s taken apart. We did learn, however, that the LG X120 is just an easy pickle when it comes to teardowns. All it took was the taking out of several screws and careful pulling to reveal that the HDD and RAM on the X120 are both easily upgradable, and that’s good enough to know for most people. After the break, photos of the LG X120’s innards exposed. We sure can’t wait to get out hands on this.

LG has just announced a new version of its follow up to the LG X110 in Barcelona during Mobile World Congress 2009. This new netbook is actually the LG X120, now equipped with wireless 3G connectivity. Also pre-installed on the LG X120 is something LG calls a Smart-on interface, which supposedly works the same way as an instant-boot OS. This should give users a way to access frequently used applications like the music player, photo viewer, and Internet suite. The LG X120 will be available in Europe starting in March with 3-cell and 6-cell battery configurations.
