It wasn’t long ago, that we reported on MSI discontinuing the hybrid netbook, the MSI Wind U115. Using both an SSD and HDD, Microsoft requested that the company cease production of the netbook, most probably due to Microsoft Windows XP operating limitations. The Dell Inspiron Mini 12 is another example, mysteriously removed from the Dell website . When Windows 7 is released, only netbooks with a display of up to 10.2 inches, will be given the cheaper version of Windows 7, while anything above that, while still a netbook, notebook licensing will be charged.

There’s also other netbooks, which due to the licensing limitations from Microsoft are going down and not as successful as they could be. Archos 10 features a 500GB HDD and 2GB, which is above the maximum of 160GB HDD and 1GB of RAM, so the higher spec model is only available with Ubuntu. This is also the case with the Dell Mini 9 with 2GB of RAM, Windows XP can not be run on it, only the 1GB model.

The final netbook which broke Microsoft’s rule, is the Everun Note. From the outside, looks like a typical netbook, 7 inch display. But inside it packs a dual core processor, where as Microsoft view netbooks as having single core CPUs. The netbook is available for $599 but it doesn’t include any operating system, which is where the netbook gets even pricier.

NetbookNews.de has done a comparison photo shoot between the Samsung NC10 and Samsung NC20. If that unboxing video still wasn’t enough to tide you over, I highly suggest you check out NetbookNews.de’s gallery. They’ve even thrown in a little bit of the Dell Inspiron Mini 12 for good measure. What’s evident is that the Samsung NC20 is far larger than the NC10, though both seem to sport the same keyboard, and same material used in their chassis. The arrangement of the ports on the side have also changed a bit from the Samsung NC10 to the Samsung NC20, but overall it still looks very user-friendly. Meanwhile, it appears as if the Dell Mini 12 is a bit larger than the NC20. But they’re still definitely portable, more so when you pit them against similar-sized lappies from other manufacturers. In a partnership that aims to raise as much as $250,000 for breast cancer research and education, Dell have joined up with breast cancer charity ‘Susan G. Komen for the Cure’ and intend to raise funds by donating $5 for every netbook and laptop they sell in their newly released “Promise Pink” variation.

The Dell Inspiron Mini 9 and Mini 12 series of netbooks will both recieve the Promise Pink color variation along with models from the Studio, Inspiron and Latitude laptop ranges and the XPS M1330 and M1530 models, according to a press release from Dell. The Promise Pink line up is available now from the Dell website.

In the mood for some gadget porn today? You’re in luck, because a (possibly bored) Dell Inspiron Mini 12 owner has gone through the trouble of dismembering his machine and displaying the photos of the resulting lewdness on his blog. The completely opened up Dell Mini 12 shows that there’s a lot of room for improvement (i.e. plenty of empty space), but that also tells us that Dell didn’t bother at all to make the thing as compact as they can.
