The battery is fairly high-capacity, and the specs look reasonable. Also, the design is as close to an Apple as it can get, in this writer’s opinion. The only contention is that the Enter key on the keyboard looks funny. But then again, so do the rest of the keys — because it’s a Russian keyboard.

In time, we might see this “Apple netbook” officially come to life, with matching PR from Apple to boot. But until then, this will only be a dream. Yep, tough look for fanboys, alright.

Dell Inspiron Mini 12 innards exposed in teardown

With the success Dell have had with their Inspiron Mini netbooks, it’s good to see them continuing to add different features and configurations to the line up, for the Inspiron Mini 12 at least.

Pricing of the Mini 12 has been altered and Dell have also added the installation of Windows XP to the model and some would say, it’s about time, as Vista slowed the netbook down according to reviews. The list of new specifications are posted below as sourced from Small Laptops along with links to the Dell product page for each netbook configuration:

New Line-up for Dell Inspiron Mini 12 Netbook

M1, a leading mobile communications provider in Singapore, is offering a Dell Inspiron Mini 9 netbook to subscribers to one of their service plans.

The Mini 9 in question is the model which has an internal HSUPA modem which gives users internet access and coupled with one of the M1 packages, you’re all set to surf the net with the Dell netbook.

To get yourself a free netbook, it’s going to set you back $78.33 (Singapore $) a month, not cheap but, you do get a decent package for the price, with 10Mbps fixed and 2Mbps mobile broadband access.

M1 Offering Dell Mini 9 in Singapore

Black Friday time comes around again and this Black Friday, netbook buyers and particularly Dell netbook buyers are in for a treat it seems.

On offer this Black Friday is a Dell Inspiron Mini 9 for $299, a saving of at least $50 on the usual $349 for the base model. Netbookreports have picked up the info from BlackFridayDeals who have the Dell netbook listed as:

“Dell Inspiron Mini 9 Laptop 8.9″ E-Value Code 16254-DNPHXD2 – $299.00″

That doesn’t give us a great deal to go on regarding specs or extras that may be on offer so I suggest you keep a close eye on the Dell website for the definite details on the offer as they come up. I know that’s what I’m going to be doing!

Black Friday Deal on the Dell Mini 9

A new model of the HP Mini 1000 will be available in January, according to Liliputing and the HP store.

The current Mini 1000, which was released last week, runs Windows XP and is priced shy of $400 by a cent at $399.99 however, HP were also advertising a Linux version of their new netbook. There was no release date stated for the Linux version but, now we have a date of January for the Linux Mini 1000, which is priced at ’starting from’ $379.99.

In addition to the Linux OS, the new model also comes fully loaded with “Mobile Internet Experience Software”, an “Intuitive dashboard-style interface” which will basically allow users to quickly access the internet and has a built in browser.

Early January is the time to snap up the Linux version of the Mini 1000, although maybe the HP store can tempt you with the Vivienne Tam Limited Edition netbook instead, which is pictured above. It’s a lot more expensive running out at $699 which may put you off but, it’s a stunning limited edition model, certainly something that will make you stand out from the crowd and perhaps for that reason, something more suited for the ladies?

HP Mini 1000 Linux to be Released Early January

Aside from releasing the basic model of the HP Mini 1000, HP has also announced two upcoming variants of the said netbook which are already in the works. These are the HP Mini 1000 Vivienne Tam Edition and the HP Mini 1000 MIE.

Similar to the HP Mini 1000, these two variants would feature Intel Atom 1.6GHz processor, Brightview widescreen display, flush glass and LED backlight, built-in webcam and microphone. In addition, the HP Mini 1000 Vivienne Tam Edition will come in vibrant red accentuated by peony-flower designs, 10.2-inch display, runs on Windows XP Home, and comes packed with Ethernet Jack, USB ports, Wifi and soon 3G capabilities.

Meanwhile, the HP Mini 1000 with Mobile Internet Experience (MIE) also supports similar specs as the other HP Mini variants. But for the MIE model, HP has made mobile Internet more easily accesible, and packed the netbook with Instant Messaging, email and Skype for online communications. These applications sit on the Mini 1000 with MIE’s dashboard and could included users’ favorite websites.

The HP Mini 1000 with MIE runs on Linux OS and also comes packed with Ethernet jack, USB ports, Wifi and Bluetooth capabilities.

The HP Mini 1000 Vivienne Tam Edition will be available sometime in December 2008 for $699, while the HP Mini 1000 with MIE will be available sometime in January for $379.

HP Unveils the HP Mini 1000 Vivienne Tam Edition and MIE

NetbookTech have come across details of the latest Dell promotion in the form of it’s ‘10 Days of Deals’ sale which began on the 14th of October and for anyone looking to buy an Inspiron Mini 9, mark off the 16th in your diaries – that’s the day the Mini 9 will be one of the deals on offer.

The image above shows the promotional page and as you can see, the offers on day 3 of the sale include a Mini 9 and a Mini 9 plus desktop bundle. There are no prices shown so presumably Dell will release pricing details on the deal day. Dell deals can be good deals though so this is definitely one to watch.

Dell Offering Deal on the Inspiron Mini 9

Steven Sande from The Unofficial Apple Weblog has posted up the steps he took to install OS X on a Dell Mini Inspiron and it’s an interesting, comprehensive guide for anyone with a desire to use the Apple operating system on their Dell netbook which however, as the guide states, clearly violates the licensing agreement stating you must use OS X on Apple products only.

OS X doesn’t run perfectly on the Mini Inspiron, there are a number of driver issues, ethernet doesn’t work and sleep mode doesn’t work either but, if you can cope with those problems, this guide will help you through the whole process of installing the OS.
