While Asus seems to be doing pretty good in terms of Eee PC shipments, both HP and Acer suffered a decline in their global notebook market share during the 1st quarter of 2011. To be more specific, HP’s global notebook market share went from 20.2% to 18.5%, while Acer’s dipped from 14.9% to 14.8%. Meanwhile, their competitors which include Dell, Toshiba, Lenovo, Samsung, Apple and Asus all enjoyed a rise in their market share for Q1 2011.

What does it mean if your netbook has a free mini PCIe slot? Well, it’s an easy way to add an internal device like an SSD, 3G module or Broadcom Crystal HD video accelerator. The last one is something you might want to try if you do have a free slot as it will give your Atom netbook a much needed boost in the HD video department. The list is below:

Whether this is another fake Apple netbook or not, we still can’t say. But it sure is one of the best looking renders we’ve ever seen. This photos was leaked in a Russian magazine and is tentatively called the “Apple MacBook Air Mini,” apparently for taking some design cues from the uber-thin MacBook Air. As you can see, it even lacks (or fails to show) its built-in ports on the side. This could very well be the 10-inch Apple netbook many folks out there have been waiting for.

Some ladies in Germany who may still be eyeing the pink and uber-girlified HP Mini Vivienne Tam Edition netbook won’t have to be waiting for a chance any longer. Already widely available in other parts of the world since last year, this feminine netbook is now listed for sale by none other than Amazon Germany. The overall specs are the same, so that means it’s equipped with a 10-inch screen, Intel Atom processor, and a floral decoration on its outer lid. In the U.S., it is available from HP’s web site for $699.99. Amazon Germany is offering it for only 499.23. Euros (equivalent to $677 USD, which makes it at least $20 USD cheaper than in the U.S.). In the mood for some gadget porn today? You’re in luck, because a (possibly bored) Dell Inspiron Mini 12 owner has gone through the trouble of dismembering his machine and displaying the photos of the resulting lewdness on his blog. The completely opened up Dell Mini 12 shows that there’s a lot of room for improvement (i.e. plenty of empty space), but that also tells us that Dell didn’t bother at all to make the thing as compact as they can. With the success Dell have had with their Inspiron Mini netbooks, it’s good to see them continuing to add different features and configurations to the line up, for the Inspiron Mini 12 at least.

Pricing of the Mini 12 has been altered and Dell have also added the installation of Windows XP to the model and some would say, it’s about time, as Vista slowed the netbook down according to reviews. M1, a leading mobile communications provider in Singapore, is offering a Dell Inspiron Mini 9 netbook to subscribers to one of their service plans.

The Mini 9 in question is the model which has an internal HSUPA modem which gives users internet access and coupled with one of the M1 packages, you’re all set to surf the net with the Dell netbook.

To get yourself a free netbook, it’s going to set you back $78.33 (Singapore $) a month, not cheap but, you do get a decent package for the price, with 10Mbps fixed and 2Mbps mobile broadband access.

A new model of the HP Mini 1000 will be available in January, according to Liliputing and the HP store.

The current Mini 1000, which was released last week, runs Windows XP and is priced shy of $400 by a cent at $399.99 however, HP were also advertising a Linux version of their new netbook. There was no release date stated for the Linux version but, now we have a date of January for the Linux Mini 1000, which is priced at ‘starting from’ $379.99.

Aside from releasing the basic model of the HP Mini 1000, HP has also announced two upcoming variants of the said netbook which are already in the works. These are the HP Mini 1000 Vivienne Tam Edition and the HP Mini 1000 MIE.

Similar to the HP Mini 1000, these two variants would feature Intel Atom 1.6GHz processor, Brightview widescreen display, flush glass and LED backlight, built-in webcam and microphone. In addition, the HP Mini 1000 Vivienne Tam Edition will come in vibrant red accentuated by peony-flower designs, 10.2-inch display, runs on Windows XP Home, and comes packed with Ethernet Jack, USB ports, Wifi and soon 3G capabilities.

Meanwhile, the HP Mini 1000 with Mobile Internet Experience (MIE) also supports similar specs as the other HP Mini variants. But for the MIE model, HP has made mobile Internet more easily accesible, and packed the netbook with Instant Messaging, email and Skype for online communications. These applications sit on the Mini 1000 with MIE’s dashboard and could included users’ favorite websites.

The HP Mini 1000 with MIE runs on Linux OS and also comes packed with Ethernet jack, USB ports, Wifi and Bluetooth capabilities.

The HP Mini 1000 Vivienne Tam Edition will be available sometime in December 2008 for $699, while the HP Mini 1000 with MIE will be available sometime in January for $379.
