Words on the street say that miTAC, a company well known for their Mio GPS devices is also joining the netbook fray. But realizing that they may be a little late in joining the netbook party, miTAC is doing something different with their netbook that is slated for release this year.

miTAC’s netbook would run on an installation of gOS, a lightweight OS which has slicker User Interface than Linux-flavored OS. Based on Ubuntu 7.10, gOS also has better integration with Google and other Web 2.0 applications.

Actually the gOS was first seen earlier this year when it was pre-installed in an Everex gPC desktop computer which was sold in Walmart for $200. It run well with the desktop computer’s 1.5GHz Via C7-D processor with 512 MB RAM, so it would definitely run better with netbooks running with the Atom processor and higher capacity RAM models.
