As Huawei gears up to try and fully penetrate the consumer electronics market with its very own smartphones and tablet PCs, it has revealed that it is currently working closely with IBM for a very effective branding strategy. These two companies have apparently been working together since 1998, and now Huawei seeks to benefit from IBM’s expertise in the consumer electronics and cloud computing segments of the market.

Huawei spokesman Ross Gan said in an interview with Bloomberg that no less than 25 consultants from IBM are involved in this project and that wrap-up should happen some time at the end of November. Gan adds:

It’s not a traditional branding project where they tell us how the brand should be positioned. It’s more from the management-of-the-process point of view: How do I manage the brand function within the organization? Who is responsible for what?

Huawei is doing all of this as part of its plan to boost sales to more than triple at $100 billion in the next decade. With the help of IBM, if it can get things right in the consumer digital devices and enterprise computing market, Huawei just might be able to reach that target in time.

While talking about their highly popular and in-demand Snapdragon mobile processor, Mark Frankel, Qualcomm’s VP of product management managed to sneak in a few of his thoughts regarding the Apple iPad and one of its major flaws: the lack of 3G connectivity on the standard model.

Frankel was quoted as saying, “What’s a tablet without [3G] connectivity? What’s the sense in carrying round such a light, thin product if you have to search for the internet hotspots to connect?” I have to say, I agree wholeheartedly with this man’s sentiments.

Going forward in the interview, he hinted that there will be similar products to Apple’s iPad in the future, but will be better, faster and most of all, sport 3G connectivity. Read other highlights of the interview via the link below.

M1, a leading mobile communications provider in Singapore, is offering a Dell Inspiron Mini 9 netbook to subscribers to one of their service plans.

The Mini 9 in question is the model which has an internal HSUPA modem which gives users internet access and coupled with one of the M1 packages, you’re all set to surf the net with the Dell netbook.

Plan details are pictured below, along with pricing information:

To get yourself a free netbook, it’s going to set you back $78.33 (Singapore $) a month, not cheap but, you do get a decent package for the price, with 10Mbps fixed and 2Mbps mobile broadband access.
