The popular, if not slightly overpriced for what it is, Samsung NC10 has reached over one million sales. The netbook, which is designed very stylishly, features the regular netbook specs, but at a slightly higher price of about £30 in the UK. The netbook has been in stores for 8 months now, starting in October 2008 and has finally reached 1 million sales. Asus and Acer may have already reached these points and more, while Samsung is more traditionally known for their TV and cellphones. One million is quite an achievement and it’s sure to be no time at all until the NC20, also by Samsung reaches that mark as well.

Joanna of Laptopmag was able to get her hands on a Korean version of the upcoming Samsung NC20 netbook/notebook. And by the looks of it, the Samsung NC20 is definitely a powerful machine with some great features that makes it stand out from the rest of the netbook crowd.

First of these new features of course is the fact that the Samsung NC20 doesn’t sport a 10-inch display but a bigger 12.1-inch. Aside from that the NC20 also boasts of 6 hours of battery life, full-sized keyboards, and more importantly a VIA Nano U2250 processor and Chrome9 HC3 integrated graphics.

The Samsung NC20 is scheduled to debut on US markets courtest of Newegg.com in the next two weeks. But in the meantime head over to Laptopmag to read the full review of the Samsung NC20.

Samsung NC20
The Samsung NC20 is probably one of the most anticipated netbooks that hasn’t been released yet. Well, according to Laptop, it will finally be available in the U.S., albeit exclusive from Newegg, starting on March 16th. It will be available in black, with a 5900 mAh battery for a still unspecified price. You can use Amazon UK’s price for reference, though, and that puts it at about $478 USD. Check out Laptop’s post with the link below for more info and a bit of hands-on first impressions.

The long-awaited 12-inch Samsung NC20 has just gone up for pre-order on Amazon UK, and anyone living in or near the UK can take advantage of this sale now. In case you’ve forgotten, the NC20 is a follow-up to the 10-inch NC10, and features Via’s Nano processor, first and foremost, instead of an Intel Atom like most other netbooks available in the market today. It will also probably run Windows 7 easily, though it would be better to confirm it when the unit actually ships. Its price is a bit steep at around $489 USD, but it should be well worth the money, especially when it’s bundled with a standard 6-cell battery.

samsung-nc20-battery-life
In case you were curious about the Samsung NC20’s battery life, and wanted to know if it was any better than that of the Samsung NC10, NetbookNews.de has posted a short Samsung NC20 battery life benchmarking story which shows how long the NC20 lasts on a single charge in different situations. With all the setting maxed and wireless connectivity on, the Samsung NC20 achieved just a little over 2 hours of battery life. While a standard test yielded exactly 4 hours of juice. Not bad for a battery that’s bundled with the device. It should last longer with aftermarket 6-cell batteries, but the point is this: the Samsung NC20 provides great battery life out of the box, which is a good thing for mobile computing enthusiasts who are eyeing to get this 12-inch netbook.

samsung-nc10-and-nc20
NetbookNews.de has done a comparison photo shoot between the Samsung NC10 and Samsung NC20. If that unboxing video still wasn’t enough to tide you over, I highly suggest you check out NetbookNews.de’s gallery. They’ve even thrown in a little bit of the Dell Inspiron Mini 12 for good measure. What’s evident is that the Samsung NC20 is far larger than the NC10, though both seem to sport the same keyboard, and same material used in their chassis. The arrangement of the ports on the side have also changed a bit from the Samsung NC10 to the Samsung NC20, but overall it still looks very user-friendly. Meanwhile, it appears as if the Dell Mini 12 is a bit larger than the NC20. But they’re still definitely portable, more so when you pit them against similar-sized lappies from other manufacturers. Don’t take my word for it, see all the photos in the comparison gallery for yourself.

If you’ve got a few minutes to spare today you can see this video of a Samsung NC20 unboxing. This shows the Samsung NC20, its box contents, and a quick boot to Windows XP Home. As you probably know this is a much awaited follow-up to the Samsung NC10, which many have hailed as the best netbook ever. While you’re still waiting to personally get your hands on one (like I know you are), then this should be enough to whet your appetite in the meantime.

Samsung NC10 White

Despite previews news that the Samsung NC20 was already spotted in some parts of Europe particularly in Germany and Ukraine, it is only now that a UK shop has started accepting pre-orders for the said netbook.

BT Shop is now accepting pre-orders for the Samsung NC20 with an estimated retail price of £390.98. It will be available in Black and White color with a February 9 and March 9 deliveries respectively.

For those who might have missed our coverage of  the Samsung NC20, here are its specs and features:

  • Via Nano(TM) Processor U2250 (1.3GHz)
  • 12.1″ Widescreen display
  • Microsoft Windows XP Home Operating System
  • 1GB RAM
  • 160GB Hard drive
  • Bluetooth 2.0 +EDR
  • Integrated 1.3 Mega pixel camera
  • 3-in-1 card reader
  • 6 Cell Battery

Take note, the Samsung NC20 maybe a follow up to Samsung’s first netbook, the NC10, but it is definitely a totally different netbook for two reasons, it has the Via Nano for its CPU and a 12.1-inch widescreen display instead of the usual Intel Atom CPU and a 10-inch display.

samsungnc20manual

We’ve already told you about what could possibly be Samsung’s follow-up to the NC10 netbook – the NC20 which doesn’t seem like a netbook anymore. Well, anyway while we are waiting for the official launch of the said netbook, Samsung UK has already put up a page for downloading the NC20’s manual.

You may want to check it out here, but unfortunately it won’t be of any use if we you don’t have the NC20 yet.

We’re really interested to know whether this new ultraportable machine will still be marketed by Samsung as a netbook or just another standard notebook. Here are the specs of the NC20 which made us think it is not longer a Samsung netbook.

  • 1.3 GHz VIA Nano U225 processor
  • 12.1-inch display
  • 160 GB Hard Drive
  • 1GB RAM
  • Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Ethernet
  • 3-in-1 card reader
  • 1.3 megapixel camera

The Samsung NC10 may still be a too young entrant into the netbook market, but that wouldn’t stop Samsung from following it up with a more powerful successor to their netbook. Words on the street say that Samsung is already preparing to launch the Samsung NC20 come February 2009.

And what does the NC20 has to offer?

  • 1.3 GHz VIA Nano U225 processor
  • 12.1-inch display
  • 160 GB Hard Drive
  • 1GB RAM
  • Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Ethernet
  • 3-in-1 card reader
  • 1.3 megapixel camera

Interestingly, the said netbook or should I say notebook would not use the Atom Processor but the VIA Nano processor instead? Shall we stop calling this a netbook and consider it as a regular, affordable notebook instead?

The Samsung NC20 will retail for around $642. The more reason that it should be considered as an affordable notebook PC.
