A few days ago we heard that Nokia were planning on releasing tablets and hybrid devices. The comments were made by Nokia chairman Jorma Ollila who was quoted to have said that “Tablets are an important [market], so that is being looked into, and there will be different hybrids, different form factors in the future.”

We’re now hearing however that the comments were “misconstrued” a bit. Keith Nowak a Nokia spokesperson confirms that no tablet announcements or hybrid devices have been announced and that they are watching the tablet market. Nowak told eWEEK “What Mr. Ollila said has been misconstrued a bit. As we have been saying, we are watching the space with interest, but have made no announcements regarding a tablet product.”

While a tablet hasn’t been officially announced by Nokia, the comments by Nowak indicate that the possibility of a Nokia tablet hasn’t been completely dismissed by the company.

Nokia is widely known for creating competitive handsets for consumers. Yet, this time, the company opted to manage on building tablets and even hybrid devices in the near future.

It’s very recently when Nokia France manager bear out the prospect launch of Windows 8 tablet to be prepared by Finns. But now, another confirmation has boomed through Nokia’s chairman tackling this and more devices to come. Nokia Chairman Jorma Ollila guaranteed a set of new creations, however didn’t indicate their exact date of release.

Nokia is anticipated to unleash its slate this year together with the upcoming Microsoft’s Windows 8 availability. Hence, with this, lots of people are wondering how this Lumia tablets would look like, creating styles based on the Lumia smartphone’s design.

Nokia remains busy working on its new tablet, which the Finnish company intends to be a standout from the sea of tablets available today. To achieve this, the company is working on an approach that will be unique among other manufacturers who want to topple down the Apple iPad from its number one spot.

The company, however, is keeping many of the details surrounding the tablet as a secret, preferring instead to let consumers wonder about its specifications. This air of wonder has even led some consumers to post concept Nokia tablets online, complete with product photos and specifications.

If the rumors are true, however, Nokia highly likely to release a Windows-8 based tablet during the latter part of this year. It is possible that this might even be during the official launch of Windows 8, which is scheduled around September. In any case, this might give time for Nokia to make the device available in time for the holiday season, which is always a lucrative time for electronics manufacturers.

Until then, however, consumers will have to satisfy themselves with rumors. Other strong rumors, for instance, from the supply chain regarding the Nokia Windows 8 tablet claim that the it will have a 10-inch display. A dual-core processor from Qualcomm is also probable.

Some specifications of the new Nokia Windows 8 tablet got leaked online. The tablet, which has gained the moniker Nokia Tab from fans, is expected to have a 10-inch display and a dual core Qualcomm central processing unit. The device will also have the minimalist Metro UI which fully takes advantage of popular touch screen functionalities.

The new Nokia tablet is part of  WoA or Windows on ARM, which transferred the Windows OS to ARM architecture, which will likely bolster Microsoft’s leverage in the tablet market. To date, Apple and Android tablets control the tablet niche, with the iPad and the Kindle Fire from Amazon at the top, but this doesn’t mean that there wouldn’t be space for a newcomer like the new Nokia Window 8 tablet.

Compal Electronics, the company from which the devices are outsourced by Nokia, is reportedly scheduled to deliver 200,000 units of the tablet during its first batch. There is no release date yet for the Nokia Windows 8 tablet, although Windows 8 OS itself is likely to arrive during the second half of this year, possibly during an October 22nd event. There is no word, however, is the Nokia Windows 8 tablet will be part of this unveiling.

Sources close to Nokia are relaying information regarding the company’s interest in the tablet market. There has been images appearing all over the Internet of what appears to be the Nokia tablet. The device has the trademark curved screen seen on the Nokia Lumia 800. It appears to have a champagne color. This is an interesting news since the Nokia Champagne code name leaked last year from the “I’m a WP7″ app.

This is probably a Windows 8 tablet or an entirely different thing like the Nokia Booklet taken from an angle and then photoshopped or something.

According to the CEO of the Finland-based mobile phone corporation, Stephen Elop, there are currently no specific and concrete plans of launching a tablet with their brand as yet. However, as to whether there are plans for the future, Elop sounds ambiguous.

In an interview at the CES 2012 in Las Vegas, Elop noted that people want a “uniformity of experience” in their devices, whether they be mobile phones, tablet PCs, laptops, or gaming consoles.

He conceded, however, that Nokia cannot possibly handle each and every aspect of our digital life, but he hinted at some future partnership with those who are already working in these fields.

Elop moreover commented on Microsoft’s Metro user interface, which received great attention at the CES. Metro UI is the new design language based on typography that Microsoft developers have created for their new products such as the Windows 8 OS.

The Nokia CEO praised Microsoft’s introduction of the new user interface at along with its live tiles feature during the technology tradeshow, calling the effort as having a synergy. He further went on to say that Nokia is interested in what Microsoft is doing.

Nonetheless, Elop still kept silent about whether there might be a future partnership between the two companies.

The Nokia Booklet 3G is one of the most expensive netbooks we’ve seen to date, so it’s probably come as no surprise that a knock off version is in the works. The design looks pretty much the same as the original Nokia Booklet but, the specs differ slightly. As it’s still being worked on, not all the specs are known as of yet. The 3G aspect of the booklet clone is currently unknown, so we’ll have to wait to hear on whether it will include a 3G connection option. Another spec which is unknown at the moment, is whether it has a HDMI output or not. MicGadget reports it as “maybe” having HDMI.

What we do know however, is that it will feature a 10.1 inch display, 1024×600 pixel resolution, 1GB RAM and a 160GB hard drive. It will also come equipped with the Intel Atom N450 CPU. The battery is also non removable, which depending on what the battery life is like, could be a big let down. Pricing isn’t known as of yet but, it’s expected to cost no more than 2,000 Yaun ($295).

Nokia was brave enough to put together, announce and release their very own netbook called the Booklet 3G last year. Why not try their luck with a tablet PC as well, right? DigiTimes today is reporting that the Finnish smartphone giant is currently trying to do just that. According to an unidentified Digitimes Research senior analyst, Nokia is going to launch an ARM-based tablet PC around the fourth quarter of 2010 and it will have either a 7- or 9-inch touchscreen display which will be supplied by Foxconn. The unnamed source goes on to say that about 100 engineering samples have already been made for testing, and that it is expected that Meego will be the OS used on the upcoming tablet PC. This might turn out good or bad for Nokia, depending on how they go about marketing and releasing it, but none of the info has been confirmed or denied for now.

We recently announced the merge of Moblin and Maemo by Intel and Nokia, to produce MeeGo. MeeGo will be offered on netbooks, smartphones and tablets. Orange are set to release devices that will run on MeeGo but, whether it’ll be a netbook, tablet or smartphone is unclear at the moment. Orange have said however, that along with MeeGo, the devices will feature Orange Multimedia services, such as Orange TV and Orange Maps. There’s no release date from Orange for the MeeGo devices but, it’s likely to be a year away, as MeeGo won’t be available until late 2010.

At the MWC, Nokia have announced that they will be merging to create a Linux based operating system that will work on netbooks, tablets and mobile devices. Currently Intel provide the Moblin Linux interface found on netbooks, while Nokia have Maemo on mobile devices.

Not much is known about MeeGo at the moment but, we should start seeing it around the second quarter of 2010. We do however know, that devices running the MeeGo OS, will be able to access and run apps from both the Intel AppUp Center and the Nokia Ovi Store.
