Asus bundles online storage services with every new Eee PC netbook purchase. For example, when you buy a netbook with low built-in storage space, the company will allow you store 10GB – 60GB worth of your data in what they call Eee backup. Many have deemed this useful, especially thsoe who have 4GB to 20GB SSD-equipped Eee PCs, but now it’s even better.

Asus has added a new feature called Eee backup to their online storage service, which automagically backs up any and all user-selected data without interference. Depending on the netbook model, Asus provides between 10GB – 60GB of free backup space. It will cost users nothing to maintain initially, but it is possible that the company will start charging for it in the future.

“We think this is more flexible, we give the user remote storage on the Web and internal storage that’s shock proof,” says Asustek CEO Jerry Shen.

User data will be stored online on Asustek owned servers and will be managed by Chungwa Telecom. Details and other information about these online storage are not yet available though. Except for the fact that users can use this online storage for one year with no cost. Asustek did not mention too, whether what will happen after the one year free usage. If Asustek will charge users, the question is how much?

Although this may be a viable alternative for data storage needs, the uncertainty of those servers should still be considered, especially if you are planning to store valuable data in those servers. But if you’re just going to use it to store temporary not so important files, then it definitely is a good add-on for the Eee PC 901.
