Still remember the new Packard bell netbooks introduced recently that were weirdly named dot m and dot s? Well, appararently the Packard Bell Dot M has a sibling, this times its called the Dot m/u.

And guess what, Packard Bell is touting the Dot m/u as the first netbook with the performance of a notebook. With that note, the Dot m/u whallops an 11.6-inch display plus the same chassis as the other Dot netbooks.

The Dot m/u is also equipped with Intel’s ULV processor, 500 GB HDD, up to 4GB of RAM, 5-in-1 card reader, 8-hour battery life and Wi-Fi. It will also have an optional 3G modem which opens the possibility that a mobile carrier will pick it up as soon as it gets out into the wild.

Price tag is around £399 with Windows 7 Premium. The Packard Bell Dot m/u will hit stores in October 22.

Of course we all know that Acer owns the Packard Bell brands. And so it is not surprising that Packard Bell which is well known supplier in Europe to release Acer’s new line of netbooks to the European market under the Packard Bell branding or rebadging if you may want to call it that way.

And so we learned that Packard Bell will be releasing the DOT S netbook which is an 10-inch beauty with WiFi, Bluetooth, 3G options as well as the standard netbook, or shall we say Aspire One specs including 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD, webcam, 5-in-1 flash memory card readers. These specs of course point to a previously announced Acer D250 netbook.

The other Packard Bell netbook slated to debut in the European Market is the DOT M netbook which as we learn will have an 11.6 inch display with 1366×768 pixel resolution, it will have an Intel Atom Z520 1.33GHz CPU plus similar specs as the DOT S.

The Packard Bell DOT S is slated to debut this week with a price tag of 299 Euros, and the DOT M will be available at the end of this month for a sweet price tag of 399 Euros.

If you were somehow looking forward and waiting for the release of the Acer Aspire One-inspired Packard Bell “Dot” netbook, I’ve got some good news and bad news. The bad news is, Packard Bell has decided to not release the “Dot” netbook, as revealed by a spokesperson speaking in an interview with the UK’s Pocket-Lint. This is probably because the company has realized that the time of lame 8.9-inch netbooks has passed. There is good news, however, in that the company has plans on introducing a better model than the “Dot” and hopefully around the same price point. More on this new model as we get additional info.

Another day and another computing brand name announces it’s entry into the netbook world and this time it’s the turn of Packard Bell who have announced the release of the Packard Bell ”dot”, an 8.9-inch netbook that features a full installation of Windows XP.

A spokesman for Packard Bell explained at the press conference that the company have been working towards producing a netbook aimed less at the business user and more at families and with XP installed, they certainly seem to have done that – it’s the operating system that many are used to and that they can just pick up and use with ease.

The “dot” is built around an Atom processor with 160Gb of hard disk space and 1Gb of RAM. Additional extra’s can include a 6-cell battery for extended battery life, a webcam and a 3G module to enhance browsing.

With specs like that, a sleek design and a price of around £315 which according to xe.com is $584, the “dot” has the potential to be a success for Packard Bell. It is due for a European release in November this year.
