The Computex 2009 is certainly starting to heat up as more press releases and coverage are starting to appear online. As usual, Asus is taking the lead among its rivals as early as now with their Computex 2009 goodies. Aside from the Eee PC 1101HA Seashell, Asus is also showing off its first non-Intel, Google Android-powered netbook.
Sporting almost the same form factor as the 1008HA Seashell, this Android /Snapdragon Eee PC netbook runs on ARM processor running on 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset with of course the Google Android OS.
With the SnapDragon processor, said Asus netbook offers up 720p HD video acceleration. Other features include integrated GPS and 3G Modem.
Best thing about this netbook is the fact that it doesn’t emit too much heat, obviously because of its low power consumption. In addition, said netbook is said to have the ability to give out up to 10 hours of good use.
Finally, since it is a lighweight netbook with minimal power requirement, the Asus Android netbook can practically stay connected “always” as in 24/7 perhaps. It’s like having an over-sized Google Android phone. Well, that’s really the idea, I guess.

An Eee PC running Android was showcased earlier today for Computex 2009, not by Google nor Asus, but by Qualcomm Technologies. The chip company is pushing for a new generation of mobile devices called “Smartbooks” that will be powered by their so far convincing 1GHz Snapdragon CPU. Asus itself has been rumored to be planning on launching Android-based Eee PCs soon, while other parties such as Freescale Semiconductor have also announced plans to introduce Android netbooks before the end of the year.
In a video recorded by TweakTown as a Qualcomm product manager demonstrated the Android-powered Eee PC to them, it can be seen that the open-source smartphone OS works fairly well on a netbook, although if it will actually be useful in real world situations (not to mention a worthy alternative to Windows and other popular netbook operating systems) is still in question. In any case, it is evident that many companies are working together to make Android on netbooks an attractive reality, so let’s just sit back and watch what happens. See a video of the Eee PC running Android with a Snapdragon CPU after the break.

Not more than two weeks ago, we showed you a netbook that we thought was called the Wistron Firstbook. As it turns out, it was actually the Wistron Pursebook, and it was demoed at CTIA 2009. Like we already mentioned, this device runs on a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and Linux, and looks much like the trackpad-less Sony Vaio P (measures about the same size, too). For those of you interested in learning even more about the device, a video demo is now available. Follow the links below to watch it.
