There are pictures circulating on the internet currently that shows a Lenovo S10 sporting a 6 cell battery - something that Lenovo haven’t announced that they are making yet.

The images show the netbook and show that the battery is protruding from the rear of the unit just like 6 cell batteries do. We don’t think it’s a Lenovo battery and there is no firm details on where the battery came from or who is making/selling them. It could be a prototype possibly. Wherever it came from, it will hopefully be available to S10 owners soon and we will let you know as soon as we get more information on the battery and on whether it will be available officially from Lenovo worldwide.

Hot Hardware have posted up a short video giving an overview of the Lenovo IdeaPad S10 netbook:

The video gives a positive review of the Ideapad but, it also shows how cramped the S10’s keyboard is, an obvious drawback with many netbooks until you ‘get used’ to using them. Read the rest of this entry »

Well, it certainly didn’t take Lenovo that long to realize that to make their first take in the netbook market successful, it has to have some great features and a highly competitive price. But since, the Lenovo S10 can only muster a great design and the Lenovo brand, the best way to make it highly marketable then is to reduce its introductory price of $439 to $399.

The $40 difference may not be too much but it’s enough to make you upgrade the netbook’s CPU from 512MB to around 2GB. Enough to give the S10 a power boost.

But here’s the lowdown, the price reduction is available for all models of the S10 netbook except the red one. So those who’ve been wanting to purchase the red Lenovo S10 will have to weigh things first if they will sacrific aesthetics over price.

After delaying the release of the IdeaPad S10 and removing the order button from their website, the order button is now back up. Lenovo are reporting to start shipping the S10 within 2 to 3 weeks.

Brad Linder has checked his order status page, but it is showing as a longer period than 2-3 weeks for shipping. Instead it says it won’t start shipping until 18th November. Currently the only model available is the white version, so if you’ve ordered the black version you may have to wait even longer.

It seems that the Lenovo IdeaPad S10’s release date has possibly been delayed by two months. Customers that pre-ordered the S10 were expecting it to be released on the 9th September. However, some buyers have been tracking the status of their order and have noticed that the status was not updating throughout the day. In fact, the order status for pre-orders wasn’t updated by Lenovo until a day after the due release date. The status then showed an expected release date of November 18th.

It’s unclear as to why Lenovo waited until the 10th of September to update their customers but, they have managed to send out a few units to allow for reviews and photographs to be published. Unfortunately, it seems some customers are lacking in solid information as to when they should expect to get their hands on their new S10.

Chinese website IT168 have been fortunate enough to get the chance to actually unbox and photograph the new Lenovo s10 and they have posted those photographs for us all to see. The photographs have met with a mixed response, some are disappointed with the ‘unveiling’ which is disappointing for Lenovo but, the IdeaPad s10 has been billed as a Wind and Eee PC ‘beater’ so time will tell if it can live up to that hype.

The S10 they have comes with a 10.2 inch display and is powered by an Intel Atom CPU with 1GB of RAM, a 160Gb HDD and it runs Windows XP.

These pictures are just a sample - there are plenty more to be found at the source for those that wish to view them: IT168

I don’t know about you, but I was really smiling while watching this 6-minute promotional video of the Lenovo S9/S10 in Chinese. The video was promoting the netbook’s “always online” features. Well, probably in China, even the bathrooms are Wi-Fi hotspots. Interestingly the promotional video did not show anything about the S9/S10’s salient features, but instead focused on the finishing the storyline, which thanks to an Engadget reader’s translation is about the couple separating with no apparent reason, only to be found out later on by the girl that the boy is already dead.

It was really a weird way of promoting a powerful netbook such as the Lenovo S9/S10, but I guess Lenovo wanted to capitalize on the popularity of “telenovelas” (read: short love story shown in TVs) to promote their netbook.

But one thing that the video was able to show aside from the fact that you can always stay online with a Lenovo netbook is the fact that it is durable as well. Take note of how the girl smash the keyboard whenever she chats with the boy.

Anyway, hopefully Lenovo could come up with a better and more appropriate promotional video for the Lenovo S9/S10 well suited for the International audience. Frankly, if this kind of video ads goes public in the US and worldwide, we will all just laugh about it.
