Don’t just go on and update your netbook’s BIOS once an update is released by your netbook’s manufacturer. Case in point: Lenovo, which has recently released a BIOS update for IdeaPad S9 and S10 users, have found that some machines are rendered useless and unbootable by this certain BIOS update version. Users on the Lenovo forums have shared their experiences, wherein they’ve found that the only way to fix their broken machines was to send it in to Lenovo for fixing. Some users were able to fix their problem on their own, but a lot seem unable to, so if you haven’t updated the BIOS yet, it would be wise to wait for a new BIOS version before trying to update. Sure, there’s a chance that your netbook will be unaffected by this small bug, but you can never be too careful. ‘Course, you’re still free to update if you’re brave enough. Just be sure you will be able to handle it if your netbook becomes a brick from this update.

There has already been the official announcement of the new model and one hands on preview of it too but, there is always room for more juicy details on Lenovo’s new netbook model – the IdeaPad S10-2 and over at GottaBeMobile they have posted up a video tour of the S10-2 which is posted below:

The video tour includes a comparison with the original S10 netbook and it is noted by Xavier from GottaBeMobile that the S10-2 “shares a lot of components with the original IdeaPad S10, but there are some nice upgrades” although, he wasn’t as positive about the screen on the S10-2, stating that he would prefer the matte screen of the original S10 to have been used on the updated model.

The Lenovo IdeaPad S10-2 will be available to buy over the coming days and will be available in the US with a 6 cell battery and a 5400RPM hard drive although, 8GB and 16GB SSD models will be available to netbook buyers outside of the US.

If you want to get your hands on the Lenovo S10, Notebooks.com are holding a competition where you stand a chance of winning one. The competition seems to be US based, as the competition questions are based on Black Friday. To be entered into the competition, you need to answer one or both of the questions, with each answer being in a seperate comment.

You can only answer each question once, on whether your Black Friday was great, saying what you bought and how difficult it was to get the items, or if it sucked, with items listed that you couldn’t get.

A winner will be picked at random next Friday, December the 5th.

Wherever it came from, it will hopefully be available to S10 owners soon and we will let you know as soon as we get more information on the battery and on whether it will be available officially from Lenovo worldwide.

Well, it certainly didn’t take Lenovo that long to realize that to make their first take in the netbook market successful, it has to have some great features and a highly competitive price. But since, the Lenovo S10 can only muster a great design and the Lenovo brand, the best way to make it highly marketable then is to reduce its introductory price of $439 to $399.

The $40 difference may not be too much but it’s enough to make you upgrade the netbook’s CPU from 512MB to around 2GB. Enough to give the S10 a power boost.

But here’s the lowdown, the price reduction is available for all models of the S10 netbook except the red one. So those who’ve been wanting to purchase the red Lenovo S10 will have to weigh things first if they will sacrific aesthetics over price.

Brad Linder has checked his order status page, but it is showing as a longer period than 2-3 weeks for shipping. Instead it says it won’t start shipping until 18th November. Currently the only model available is the white version, so if you’ve ordered the black version you may have to wait even longer.

It seems that the Lenovo IdeaPad S10’s release date has possibly been delayed by two months. Customers that pre-ordered the S10 were expecting it to be released on the 9th September. However, some buyers have been tracking the status of their order and have noticed that the status was not updating throughout the day. In fact, the order status for pre-orders wasn’t updated by Lenovo until a day after the due release date. The status then showed an expected release date of November 18th.

It’s unclear as to why Lenovo waited until the 10th of September to update their customers but, they have managed to send out a few units to allow for reviews and photographs to be published. Unfortunately, it seems some customers are lacking in solid information as to when they should expect to get their hands on their new S10.
