The reason why we still don’t have the 10-inch Acer Aspire One in stores is because Acer is working to “make sure all the top components are ready in this new model, from panel to battery and computer processing unit.”

This is according to Acer chairman J.T. Wang in a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal. Wang also mentioned that the screen they used for their upcoming 10-inch netbook is “brighter and more saturated” that those Asus used on the equally sexy Eee PC S101 (probably true, but the flame war that could result from this is definitely not necessary).

Currently, netbook sales account for about 30 percent of the company’s overall notebook sales, so that’s good news for Acer’s netbook division. We’re going to see just how better the D150 is when we finally get it in our hands, and we’ll give you an update then.

Our good buddy Peter at Portable Monkey has posted a slew of photos comparing the Asus S101, S101H and 1002HA. These three are among Asus’s highest in their high-end netbook category, and other manufacturers haven’t been able to match these in some aspects. Him summary of the netbook comparison goes:

The similarities of all three ASUS Eee PC S101, S101H and 1002HA can be confusing and honestly, I can’t see a point to the S101H. The S101H is as we know, “the S101 but with a hard disk drive, instead of an solid state disk” but it’s actually half way between the S101 and the 1002HA. The differences are all so minimal though and don’t amount to much. I would either stick to the 1002HA and save money, or go for complete mobility and battery life with the S101. The S101H is in the middle, no man’s land…

Fellow Eee PC news site Eee-pc.de has published photos of a side by side comparison of the Eee PC S101H and Eee PC S101. In the photos, the hard drive equipped S101H ends up looking thicker, though it is noted that both netbooks actually have hard drives installed, even the S101 that’s supposed to have an SSD for storage. Some people might view the thickness of the Eee PC S101H as a good thing, thinking it will help the product become more sturdy. But others will value the S101’s sexiness more. Whichever side you take, you might want to check out the rest of the photos in this mini photo shoot. Do so by going to the link below.

Asus is prepping up the worldwide launch of its premiere Eee PC product, S101. The Eee PC S101 now has its own product page, and a very classy product page at that. The Eee PC S101 product site has video materials about the S101, photo gallery, product information and of course the S101’s product specs.

Notable feature of the product site is the interactive product launch schedule of the Eee PC S101.

Quiet honestly, the official product page for the S101 is pretty impressive and we got to give it to Asustek for coming up with such a nice and professionally looking product site. Hopefully, this product site would help propel the sales of the Eee PC S101.

Asustek’s prime netbook model, the Eee PC S101 has been announced for a couple of weeks now but Asus kept us guessing as to how much they are going to sell it. Until now, well at least for our friends in the UK the Eee PC S101 will be available for around $782.

I know it’s a bit pricey for a netbook. In fact it’s way too hefty from the very pricey HP Mini-Note, but as published the S101 is in between the line of a netbook and an entry level regular notebook anyway.

But it still up to you whether you’d want a $782 netbook featuring:

  • a 64GB SSD
  • 2GB of RAM
  • and a 10.2-inch screen
  • plus other pretty standard netbook features

Or you may want for a couple of months until Asus decides to lower its price, especially since Asus is well known to introduce netbooks at high prices only to put it down in a couple of weeks or months.

Asustek might have sense the positive feedback that its recently launched Eee PC S101 that the company is optimistic that it can ship around 50,000 units of the said netbook this month alone. If the company reach this target, it will definitely boost Asustek’s revenues to around 35 million. This we learned from a Digitimes report.

In addition Asustek is also confident that sales of the S101 will increase some more as soon as it is launch in both Europe and Japan sometime during this month. The projected sales of the S101 will add up to Asustek’s goal of shipping 700,000 Eee PCs this month, as reported a couple of days ago.

The Eee PC S101 launched by Asustek a couple of days ago comes with 16GB SSD and later this month, a 16GB and 32GB will also be launched.

Now, this may be a good news for some netbook fans who are getting tired of Asustek’s never ending netbook releases. According to the report, Asustek has no plans of producing Eee PCs with 11-inch panels. And we are glad to learn about this news.

It’s hinges are adorned with crystal, it sports a premium infusion finish, making the Eee PC S101 geared for the style conscious users.

The Eee PC S101 will be available in 3 versions; a 16GB SSD model with Windows XP. It will also comes pack with an additional 16GB SD card. This model will retail for around $699. The second version comes with a 32 GB SSD with Linux OS and will retail for around $699 as well. And lastly, the 64GB SSD model with Linux which will have a price tag of around $799.

Feature-wise the Eee PC S101 carries almost the same features as the other 10-inch Eee PC models. Except for the 20GB online storage that comes with every unit. Interestingly, the S101 only comes with the .3MP web camera. We’re wondering how come Asus didn’t put the 1.3MP web camera instead, if it aims to market this netbook as a higher model than all the rest of the Eee PC family?
