If netbook manufacturers would start coming out with non-Intel netbooks right after the Computex 2009 event, demand for high-performing SSDs would surely propel. SanDisk is probably anticipating this need as it started shipping its latest flash memory-based solid state drives (SSDs) geared specifically for netbooks.

The new SanDisk pSSD P2 and and S2 both employ a new technology called nCache which was developed to improved netbook performance. Basically nCache support burst performance up to five times the steady VRPM2. In simpler terms, nCache improves users responsiveness and helps prevent stalling or shuddering of netbooks equipped with first generation SSDs.

But aside from improving netbook performance, these SanDisk SSDs would also make way for lower cost netbooks. Compared with HDDs, SSDs are price relatively cheaper, and sice storage is one major cost consideration of netbook manufacturers, the SanDisk new generation SSDs would enable manufacturers to release the prices of their new netbooks at lower cost than usual.

SanDisk has announced a new flash memory-based SSDs at the CES in Las Vegas – the SanDisk pSSD which is aimed at meeting the demand of netbooks’ OS. This new generation flash memory SSDs was designed to replace HDDs and features a SATA interface which boosts the SSDs performance. With this new SSDs netbooks will boot and launch applications faster than when using the traditional SATA HDDs.

The SanDisk pSSDs will be available in 8-64 GB capacity and is slated to be released sometime in February. Price details are not yet available, although SanDisk promises to make this pSDDs as affordable as possible.
