We’ve all seen the need for extra screen space for our netbook. There are even a couple of models that come with a dual screen. For those who feel the need for another screen, check out Cinq.

Like other mini monitors in the market, this connects via USB and can be placed on a stand to expand your monitor space. It also can be attached to the side of your laptop or netbook in either portrait or landscape mode in case you don’t have anywhere to stand it on. The screen itself is 10.1″ 1024 x 600 and LED backlit. It has a limited color range though plus taking input via USB will make it unsuitable for media. It probably works best as an info screen for mail, Twitter and other notifications.

It has a built-in SD card reader too so you can turn it into a digital picture frame. It’s on pre-order now for $250 though I can’t seem to find the product website.

Second tier LCD makers were hoping that demand for 11.6 inch displays would be high, giving them a chance to compete with Samsung, LG Display and AU Optronics, who currently dominate the notebook and netbook panel market. They hoped that demand for 11-13 inch displays would propel them into the competition but it seems the demand for these size displays is actually dropping. Many netbook manufacturers appear to prefer the displays to be 10 inches or smaller. CULV notebooks were also to make use of these display sizes but, it appears many will actually be using displays of 13.3 to 15 inches. The shipment of 11-13 inch displays is expected to drop significantly.

It looks like a feature that was supposed to be available out of the box on day 1 was just added to all available units of the Dell Inspiron Mini 10 all across the world. This high-res screen option was also introduced in the recently launched Dell Inspiron Mini 10 netbooks in Japan, with the Intel Atom Z520 chips. It costs a $35 upgrade from the regular Dell Mini 10 configuration, but to some it may be well worth it. The options for configuration are available on Dell’s web site, linked below.
