Several tablets were unveiled by AEM. They all have things in common: bright colors and hefty choices in processors. The AEM 073 tablet was announced with the Samsung PV10 processor. The AEM 075, on the other hand, is offered with a choice of three different proceesors: Samsung PV210 chip, AML 8726-M3 and TCC8803. A pair of tablets are joining the ARM fray: AEM 071 and 076 with optional VIA and Infotmic chips.

These two tablets are reasonably priced because of its processors. Also, the tablets have a resistive 7-inch screen with a resolution of 800×480 pixels.

The VIA 8850 powere tablet has 512MB memory and a front-facing camera at 0.3MP.

The Infotmic iMAPX210 powered tablet has similar configurations as the VIA tablet except for having memory options of 256MB or 512MB. As of this moment, both of the tablets run the old version of Android but ICS upgrade was promised by the manufacturer.

The AEM 071 tablet is available in four different dazzling colors. Its sibling, the AEM 076 tablet is available both in both black adn white shades.

The one pictured above is the TESO, an Atom tablet that looks more like a jumbo iPhone rather than an iPad. It does trump the Apple tablet with its ports; it boasts a HDMI output and USB ports. I’d probably not use this thing as a phone though.

More iPad clones on future posts. Stay tuned.

So I was touring the local mall and stumbled upon an interesting find. I spotted what looked like a black, plastic version of the Macbook Air. It was an Indigo RS130, a shanzhai laptop manufactured in Taiwan for the cellphone brand Firefly.

The specs were the boring basics: Intel Atom N280 1.6GHz with GMA950 graphics, 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD, 802.11b/g WiFi, LAN, 1.3MP Camera. What set it apart was its 13″ screen and chiclet keyboard. The design very much mimicked the Macbook Air, down to the power button at the corner.

It also had 2 USB ports, a LAN port, one jack for both mic and headphones and an HDMI out. The unit had no pre-installed OS (not even Linux) but the display model had Windows 7 on it. A big downside was that the battery was pretty small and only lasts around 2 hours. I wasn’t able to get the actual weight but it felt something like 1.2-1.3 kg.

The retail price for this is roughly $390. You won’t get much out of it except light browsing and similar tasks due to the slower CPU. If you’ve ever dreamt of a black Macbook Air or just want a budget notebook with a better screen and keyboard, this might just be the one for you.

The ‘Shanzai 100 See Ban Gu’ comes fitted with a rotating 10.2 inch tablet screen, is powered with an Atom CPU and is complete with a 160GB hard disk drive and 1GB of RAM.
