Sony have posted a competition up on their blog for folks in the US. If you answer three questions correctly, related to pop you’ll have the chance to win a netbook or Billabong Boardshorts. The competition closes Friday 3rd September where 2 winners will be picked to win the netbook and 10 winners for the Boardshorts.

The netbook available in competition, is the Billabong edition of the VAIO W, which comes in “Imperial Lime”. Most of the specs of the netbook are pretty standard, 1GB of RAM, 10 inch display and a 250GB hard drive. The VAIO W however, is highly praised for it’s higher resolution. Most netbooks feature a maximum resolution of 1024×600, where as the VAIO W, you can use that, or opt for the higher 1366×768 option, which definitely makes a difference.

We recently showed you the VAIO W which was being released in Australia in collaboration with Billabong. The Billabong edition netbook came in “Imperial Lime” which consisted of splashes of lime green, blue and black. Now Sony have announced that the Billabong limited edition Sony VAIO W will be making it’s way to the US. You can currently pre-order the netbook for $500. Specs remain the same, 10.1 inch display, 1GB of RAM, Windows 7 Starter and a 250GB hard drive.

Sony will also be participating in Billabong’s Design for Humanity event. Sony will be auctioning off two of the netbooks and proceeds will be donated to the Invisible Children foundation. When the netbook will actually be shipped is unknown but, it’s likely to be from June 10th, when the Design for Humanity event takes place.

Sony Australia has just announced that its special edition Billabong VAIO W netbook will be available in the Australia market starting June. The said netbook will set you back for $749.  And what do you get for for hefty price? A specially designed VAIO W netbook which has colored lid that has splashes of lime green, blue, and black.

The netbook is a collaboration between Sony and Billabong and is loaded with Billabong-related content such as images and video featuring Billabong products.  The Sony VAIO W’s color scheme was specially designed with Billabong’s 2010 Summer board short range which will be out in Australia sometime in July.

For its specifications, this netbook has an Intel Atom N450 CPU, 2GB of RAM, 250GB HDD, 10.1-LED backlit widescreen display with 1366×768 resolution. The netbook is also loaded with Windows 7 Professional edition and runs the Aero Theme.

Sony have teamed up with Billabong Australia to create a special edition VAIO W netbook. The specs of the netbook remain the same, 10.1 inch display with an outstanding 1366×768 resolution, 1GB of RAM and a 250GB hard drive. It also comes with Windows 7 Starter.

The design however is created with Billabong’s 2010 Summer board in mind. The design is named Imperial Lime, which features splashes in lime green, along with blue and black. The netbook is also loaded with extra content, Billabong exclusive. It includes images and videos from Billabong’s upcoming TV show which will focus on key surfing athletes.

The netbook should be released sometime in June in Australia and will sell for $749SRP.

Over at CNET, the guys have got hold of Sony’s newest Vaio W model which is eco friendly. They report it looks almost exactly like the original Vaio W but, the case is made from recycled materials, 20% of which is from recycled CDs. The specs of the device remain the same apart from the CPU. Sony have replaced the Intel Atom N270 and now use the N450 CPU, which is more energy efficient.

As well as looking a lot like the original, CNET report that it also feels like the original as well. Which is a good thing, as it means the chassis is sturdy and has a crisp screen resolution. One thing that hasn’t changed though, which was a complaint in the original Vaio W, is that they keyboard feels cramped. The netbook is currently available for pre-order from Amazon for $479.99.

Remember how we told you the Sony Vaio W was no longer available from PC World? Well it may be because Sony are releasing an updated model. Like we previously told you, the VAIO W11S1E is still available on Amazon for £330-£332 but now, a new model, the W12S1E is also showing up at Amazon.

The W12S1E features pretty much the same specs as the previous model with a couple of changes. The new model will run Windows 7 Starter instead of Windows XP but, the main change and probably the reason for the new model number, is the hard drive size. The W12S1E will feature a 250GB HDD instead of 160GB. The extra hard drive space and newer operating system will cost you an extra £70 though. The netbook is available to pre-order for £399 in white, tan and pink. Release date is November 10th.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Sony are releasing their netbook, the Sony Vaio W in a two tone pink to raise money for the cause. The netbook will come with a matching carry case and mouse. The netbook will be available to purchase until the end of this month. Sony are also releasing their eReader in pink for the cause. The company will donate $110,000 of profits into the cause. The Vaio W is already available in pink but, if you haven’t picked one up yet, now is the time to pick one up, as not only will you get a brand new shiny netbook but, you’ll also be supporting the cause.

Sony’s first official netbook, the Vaio W had previously been spotted for pre-order Stateside on both Amazon and Best Buy. However at the time, neither site had a definite release date for the netbook. As of now, the netbook is available from both retailers. Best Buy have the netbook in white, pink and brown for $499.99. All models are available online but not for store pick up. Amazon on the other hand only have the pink model available to order but as of writing they only have two available.

In the UK it’s pretty much the same. PC World has the Vaio W netbook in all three colors but, likewise, the netbook is only available to order online and not collection from store. The price ranges from £374.97 for the white, to £381.26 for the brown and pink. Amazon UK appear to have all colors in stock for around the same price.

If you didn’t get the chance to pre-order Sony’s real netbook – the Sony Vaio W when Amazon offered it for pre-order recently, well here’s another chance for you to get a crack on this expensive Sony netbook once it is released. Bestbuy has currently put up a pre-order page for the Sony Vaio W.

As expected BestBuy’s Sony Vaio W takes a rather expensive price tag if you are to compare it with other netbooks of similar specs. The price tag is at $499 a poof and it is expected to ship between August 12 to 18. The Sony Vaio W will be available in pink, blue or brown color design.

If you already forgot, the Sony Vaio W is equipped with Intel Atom N280 CPU, 1GB RAM, 10.1-inch screen with 1366×768 resolution and some other standard netbook features.

If you’re in the U.S., you may find the price of the Sony Vaio W a little bit on the expensive side. That is with the expected price range of around $499. But you’re still lucky for you are not located in Manila, Philippines where the Sony Vaio W will be available in the market for around $890!

Yup, Sony Philippines has just launched the Sony Vaio W yesterday. In case you’re wondering if there’s any difference in the specs of the Manila version of the Sony Vaio W, well actually there is none. For that whooping price, you’ll get the same specs such as:

• 1GB RAM
• 160GB HDD
• Intel GMA 950
• 10.1″ screen @ 1,366×768 pixels
