Thin is in, and Toshiba knows it. That’s why they decked out their latest flagship Android-powered tablet in a sleek 0.3-inch thick chassis. It’s just a tad lighter than the competition, and it can really catch your attention.

But after LAPTOP Mag put it through its paces for a full Toshiba Excite 10 LE tablet review, here’s what they found: it’s nice to have a tablet as thin and as light as the Toshiba Excite 10 LE is, but it is simply not worth the premium price tag–which goes a full quarter of a Benjamin over $500, and then some. And that’s not the least of your problems if you’re going to go with a Toshiba Excite 10 LE tablet for your needs.

There are issues with the screen, sound quality, and several other hardware features which include the camera. LAPTOP Mag‘s advice is to simply take a look at what the competition has to offer at much lower price points. Don’t take my word for it, go read the full Toshiba Excite 10 LE review via the link below.

By now, reviewers have had more than enough time to test out Apple’s new iPad in comparion with not only the old one but also the many other tablet devices that are available in the market today. And if you’re looking to find out what Consumer Reports has to say about the new iPad on their own review for it, we have it here right now.

Based on the tests that Consumer Reports did over the course of the iPad 3′s availability in the market, it was found that not only does the new iPad outperform its predecessor–the iPad 2–but it also trumps pretty much every other tablet that’s available today overall. That’s quite an achievement for something that supposedly has slight problems with overheating and charging during usage.

The thing that helps the iPad take the cake, unsurprisingly, is its built-in high-res Retina display, which even the best OLED screen from Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 7.7 just can’t compete with. In terms of battery life, it seems that the iPad is also the one that offers the best value for money. The new iPad’s strengths should give other manufacturers something new to aspire to.

If you consider yourself one of the many people who are currently longing for your very own Windows 8 tablet PC (a proper one, that is), then you want to keep your eyes peeled for what’s going to happen by September-October of this year. Because according to a report on the Chinese site DigiTimes, that is when companies like Asus, Acer, Samsung, Lenovo, and HP can be expected to launch their x86-based Windows 8 tablet PCs in the market. What exactly are they waiting for? Possibly perfection, but it’s also said that these same companies, along with several others like Samsung, Toshiba, and Sony, have plans to launch Windows 8 on ARM (WoA) offerings as well. We won’t be seeing any official releases for devices of that kind until early 2013, though. This is all according to the same unnamed source cited by DigiTimes in its report. The only thing that’s really sure at the moment is that you will still have time to save up for these babies for when they actually do get released in the market. Keep it here for updates.

Engadget have spotted an unexpected tablet in amongst the NVIDIA booth. Among the Transformer Prime there’s a 7.7 inch display tablet from Toshiba which is running on NVIDIA’s 1.5GHz Tegra 3 chip. The tablet appears to be a successor to the AT200, with the model number being AT270. The settings menu also displayed the version of Android it was running, which is Android 4.0.

While most of the first batch of ultrabooks, such as the Asus Zenbook UX31E and Lenovo IdeaPad U300s, weigh about 3 lbs, nothing can be any lighter than the Toshiba Protege Z835. At just 2.4 pounds, you can actually tell that this is a light-as-a-feather laptop.

The Portege Z835 configuration features a Core i3 2367M that runs partly at 1.4GHz with no Turbo Mode. The system has 4GB of RAM as well as a 128GB solid state drive. However, while this laptop doesn’t break 30 fps games even at low resolutions and low quality settings, the Protege Z835 is not meant to support modern gaming. Nonetheless, Toshiba also offers other configurations, like a Core i7 2677M processor and 6GB of RAM, but at a cost of up to almost $1500.

Though this laptop lacks in hardware performance, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it is full of hassles with every use. In fact, SSD’s are faster than rotating hard drives, so boot up and resume times from sleep or hibernation are fast and efficient while most of the everyday programs launch quickly. If you’re just interested in some basic web browsing and document editing, this laptop would definitely work well with you.

The processor is capable of keeping up with most hi-def video playback, though the quality isn’t quite top-notch. Another thing is that its 1366 x 768 panel is not that bright, and the apparent contrast is poor. Black levels just seem like “really dark grey” at best, and you can immediately notice the problem when viewing dark scenes. Viewing angles from the sides are fine, but vertical viewing angles are not that impressive.

As with most Ultrabooks, the keyboard has a very short key travel. The keys are also a little squat, while some even have their height shopped off. But still, this is only a minor drawback and does not actually ruin typing. Where many Ultrabooks have put a backlit keyboard on the chopping block, Toshiba manages to keep the backlight. The touchpad is smaller than many others, in part because Toshiba gives up some space at the bottom for a pair of physical buttons instead of using a larger buttonless touchpad. The feel is pretty good, but not as smooth as the glass-coated touchpads on other ultrabooks. The expected multi-touch gestures are supported, such as the pinch-to-zoom and two-finger scrolling, even though they weren’t all enabled by default.

The Portege Z830 has a really classy look to it. The muted gray exterior carries over to the inside, with mild brushing on the magnesium alloy body. Unfortunately, it doesn’t feel quite as sturdy as looks. The deck feels solid, and the laptop holds up well when closed, but the lid and screen bend quite a bit under even modest pressure.

Another impressive feature of the Protege Z385 is its collection of ports and connectors. All Ultrabooks are space-constrained, but Toshiba was able to fit separate headphone and microphone jacks on the left along with an SDHC card slot. Along the back edge, you’ll find the power plug, VGA, HDMI, two USB 2.0 ports as well as a gigabit Ethernet. The right side houses a single USB 3.0 port and a Kensington lock slot.

An “Eco Mode” button near the power button allows the user to reduce power consumption as it dimming the display, turning off the keyboard backlight and switching to a more conservative power profile. Next to that is a button to active remote screen projection with its built-in Intel’s WiDi. Unfortunately, it seems you don’t get to a reasonable price these days without bundling some truly annoying software. Being a Best Buy exclusive, you’ll find an obnoxious Best Buy PC App, which is just a way to sell you more stuff from Best Buy. You’ll also have to deal with the Norton Internet Security trial nagging you about how your PC is unprotected. There’s a Toshiba Book Place app installed, which appears to be Blio with a Toshiba skin on it, along with the Google Chrome browser. The browser we can deal with, but there’s no good reason for the system to include both Norton and Google browser toolbars.

In conclusion, the Protege Z285 may be the best Ultrabook you can buy for under $1000 right now, but it’s pretty obvious that concessions were made to drop the price. The Toshiba Portege Z835 is now available for $799 . It’s noticeably lighter than other Ultrabooks and the Macbook Air, features a surprisingly good array of ports and a backlit keyboard, and doesn’t skimp out on the SSD the way the similarly-priced ultrabooks.

Ultrabook trends are getting hotter every now and then; making the competition even harder. That’s why companies strategized to build their models at top of the market line. Hence, Toshiba decided to give a lower price point for this rising laptop category through launching of the Portege Z835 at Best Buy for just $799.99.

The Toshiba Portege Z835 Ultrabook Laptop is packed with second-generation Intel core i3-2367M processor with 4GB DDR3 memory for multitasking power skills. It has a 13.3-inch LED-backlit TFT HD widescreen display with TruBrite technology to view movies and games in stunning precision. With its built-in Intel high-speed wireless LAN, you can connect to the Internet and surf your favorite sites without the use of any support wires.

Although there are reports that HP and Lenovo will soon release their new ultrabook models early next year, it seems that consumers might still enjoy this Toshiba’s ultrabook which is a light-weighted one. Since it only weighs about 2.5 lbs. and thinly measures as 0.6-inch to allow the users handle and take the laptop on a sure ease.

Being the beast that it has always been, the retail kingpin hands PC manufactures a wishlist of specs on board; design as usual flourishes, and at assertive price points – including the guarantee of selling a finished machine exclusively.

Toshiba Satellite P745-S4320), a typical laptop, suggests itself with profusion of must-have features: A fast Core i5 CPU, Blu-ray player, USB 3.0 interface, and WiDi 2.0 wireless and WiMAX features. But if you’ve never used wireless options and Blu-ray player and they don’t seem important to you, you’re better off flouncing at cheaper laptops.

Plastic inclusions have basically been withdrawn by mainstream laptop makers to pave way for sleeker aluminum chassis—however, Toshiba hasn’t wedged on to the drift. The P745-S4320 cloths a textured lid including wrist rest –adding that to “Fusion X2 Platinum” finish, yea right! But not really my style, but could work – ask the IT gurus.

The entire chassis would put around 4.85 pounds in your lap, rendering it as a middle-weight considering 14-inch category; and you’ll realize this from the contrasting weights among the Dell Inspiron 14z (Core i5) ($750 direct, 4 stars) (4.5 pounds), Sony VAIO VPC-EG27FM/W ($779.99, 3.5 stars) (5.1 pounds) and Asus U46E-BAL6 ($899.99, 4 stars) (4.9 pounds).

About a year ago, Toshiba offered L635 model which was aimed at the kiddie market but was discontinued later on. Now, Toshiba is once again attempting to reach out to young consumers with an updated version - model L735D-S3300.

The new model includes the AMD E-series E300 dual-core processor instead of an Intel Celeron in the L635. The hard drive specs are now higher (3GB and 320GB compared to 2GB and 250GB on L635). Since it’s based on the standard L735, the Kids version has the same features, such as a DVD burner, a 1366×768 screen, webcam, Wi-Fi, and a media card reader.

However, the Kids version has no Bluetooth (no antenna), no modem port, no PC Express Slot, nor a SmartCard Reader slot. It has 2-USB (2.0) ports, Memory Card Reader, 10/100 Ethernet LAN, Wi-Fi® Wireless networking (802.11b/g/n), Webcam and microphone built into LCD bezel though.

What the Satellite L735 Kids PC has that most grown-ups’ laptops don’t is that it is ruggedized with a wipeable keyboard, a fingerprint resistant textured finish, and bumpers on the corners. This laptop is perfect for ages 7 to 12. Also, the 13.3-inch size is more optimized for kids, since larger laptops can be too heavy for them to carry around.

Kids will definitely love the L735 because it is preloaded with some applications for them, such as KidZui web browser with built-in parental control and LEGO Harry Potter video game.

This laptop comes with genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit).

The Toshiba Satellite L735D-S3300 Kids PC is priced at $498 according to Toshiba Direct, but Best Buy lists it for $399.

This new Tosiba Tab will use all the “micro” connectivities, microSD, microHDMI, and microUSB. The Thrive is available in 8GB to 32GB capacities, expect the same capacity with this new tablet. Thrive had a textured rubber on its back, this table will have brushed metal.
