In Europe MSI have released an alternative to their 12 inch CULV netbook, the Wind U200. The Wind U200 isn’t available to purchase in Europe or America yet, but the alternative 12 inch model, the U210 is available, well in Europe anyway, sorry America. Blogeee have gotten hold of the U210 which really does look like an oversized U100, as described by Brad Linder and I couldn’t agree more. The U100 is a great netbook from the company, so the U210 is sure to go down just as well, with perhaps that even re-badged as well. Blogeee have captured the unboxing on video which you can view after the jump along with various photos, with some comparing the U210 next to the U100.

MSI Wind U100 PLUS
Just like how Acer is sticking to the “One” moniker for their netbooks, it looks like MSI is going to keep holding on to their Wind line of 10-inch screen-equipped mobile computing machines. The Taiwanese outfit has just launched what it calls the MSI Wind U100 PLUS, a new version of the old MSI Wind that comes with an Intel Atom N280 processor.

At CeBIT in Germany, MSI have showcased two new MSI Wind netbook models. The first netbook, the U100 Plus, is an updated version of the popular MSI Wind U100. The U100 plus will feature the new Intel Atom N280 processor, an ICH7M chipset and Intel 945GSE graphics as updated specs. The netbook is also listed as coming with 2GB of RAM, the same as the original U100. The original U100 model however only comes with 1GB of RAM, so we’ll have to wait for an update on the true RAM size of the U100 plus. Other specs including a 160GB hard drive, 10.2 inch display and 1.3 megapixel web camera remain the same as the U100.

MSI have also shown off the U110 Eco netbook which also features a 10 inch display and other similar specifications. The specifications that have been changed include the processor and in build graphics. The U110 will feature the Intel Atom Z530 processor and Intel GMA500 graphics which will provide extra battery life, giving to the Eco name of the netbook.

Yesterday, November 29th began the IT Month in Taiwan. To celebrate the event, MSI have unveiled a special edition MSI Wind U100.

The U100, which features a 10 inch screen,  160GB hard drive, Intel Atom processor, 1GB of RAM, Wifi and bluetooth, has previously been released in Angel White, Imperial Black, Special Love Edition and Loving Pink. The special edition U100 comes in a “cherry red” color, which looks very festive. Unfortunately though, if this cherry red MSI netbook appeals to you, it is only available in Taiwan.

There’s no word on the price of the red netbook, but prices are usually slashed in the IT Month, so hopefully this will be available for a bargain price.

MSI, the producer of the popular Wind U100 netbook, have announced that they will also be producing the Wind U120 within the upcoming months, according to an interview with the head of sales at MSI in Laptop Magazine.

Unlike the Wind U100, the U120 will be capable of supporting 3.5G wireless networking. The U120 will share the screen size of 10 inches with it’s older sibling. Storage will be covered with a hard drive (of between 20 and 40 gb’s according to the interview) as opposed to SSD however, MSI will provide SSD in the future. Further details are sketchy but, this is exciting news from MSI and their new netbook is expected to cost under $600 on release although, details arent confirmed yet.

Spotted a local PC dealer in one of the Malls in the Philippines selling the MSI Wind U100 at around $549. I immediately checked Amazon and it is currently listing the MSI Wind U100 at an SRP of 552.85. This model comes with the 1GB RAM, 80GB HDD, Windows XP and 6-Cell Battery Pack. That’s definitely a big difference in prices, right?

But wait here’s something more. As part of an ongoing promotion, the said Philippine store is offering to upgrade the memory of the MSI Wind to 2GB and its HDD to 160GB. Now, that is definitely a big steal! The promo period runs until September 30, and I’m hoping to raise some funds to get one for myself. Maybe it’s time to replace my Asus Eee PC 701 4G model by now. Any donors out there? :-)

Incidentally, said store is also selling another version of the MSI Wind called U100Lx. What makes this model different is the fact that it only comes with a free DOS OS. This unit sells for around $422. And the store is also offering to upgrade its HDD to 160GB for free!

After recently changing their netbook’s touchpads to sentelic from Synaptics, giving less functionality, MSI are upgrading the hard drives in one of their netbooks.

MSI will be upgrading the hard drive of their U100 to a 120GB hard drive which will ship as standard. MSI should be starting this immediately, however it could still take a while before the 80GB ones are sold and you start seeing the 120GB version.

MSI’s U90, U100’s little brother with a 8.9 inch screen, will continue to ship with the original 80GB hard drive.
