VZW netbook launch sheet
While we’ve already known for a while that Verizon Wireless is planning to launch subsidized WWAN-equipped netbooks (which might include the HP Mini 1000), there still no info on an exact launch date, let alone a final price. So those of you under Verizon who are looking forward to learning more about this may be eager to hear the news I have for you now. According to a leaked internal document, Verizon is going to hold a netbook webinar which will brief employees that managers all about these devices we all know and love as netbooks. It came from an Anonymous source, but it looks pretty legit if you ask us. Though the internal document itself doesn’t indicate a launch date, it could very well be soon. We’ll be updating with more info as we get it.

Following our report on Verizon Wireless’ plans of releasing subsidized netbooks as a direct competition with AT&T’ which started offering Acer Aspire One for $99 with two-year service plan, a Verizon official has officially confirmed that said netbook package is actually happening soon.

Brenda Raney of Verizon Product Distribution and Marketing confirmed that the subsidized netbook could be be in Verizon communications stores as early as next quarter.  However, pricing details and other information about the said netbook still remains unknown at this time.

Reacting to this confirmation, Carrie MacGillivray, an IDC senior mobile enteprise analyst say that it is natural for Verizon to offer subsidized netbooks but the challenge is more on at what price such subsidized netbook should be offered.  She also said that this subsidized netbook would not really affect the smartphone industry since both the smartphone and netbook have different consumer market.

With Verizon confirming  their subsidized netbook to come soon, what remains to be known now is which netbook manufacturer it would tap for this plan. Would a Verizon Wireless and Asus team-up be possible especially since AT&T already sells the Acer Aspire One and Dell Mini netbook? Or and HP-Verizon tandem would be a better team? What do you think folks?

Verizon Wireless is reportedly prepping to launch its very own subsidized netbook, a device that will be bundled with some form of the carrier’s wireless broadband service. The project doesn’t sound like it’s anywhere near completion, and pricing info isn’t available yet, but a person close to the project is cited to have confirmed this. Verizon already has competition in the form of AT&T as far as selling unsubsidized netbooks isn’t concerned, but the wireless carrier is expected to offer a similar, if not better deal, selling netbooks in the company’s stores, and retail partners who also may stock them. Interestingly, what kind of netbook Verizon is going to sell or from what manufacturer it’s going to come from wasn’t revealed. Perhaps the wireless carrier is aiming to entice potential buyers, with the right price rather than the right brand.
