Looks like a mobile carrier has finally decided to take the expensive Sony Vaio P netbook. Words on the streets say that Verizon might actually offer the Sony Vaio P under its mobile data plan. If you would recall, Verizon currently has three netbooks under its fold – the Gateway LT2016U, HP Mini 311 and Mini 110.

If this rumor is true, the Sony Vaio P will actually be the smallest netbook under Verizon’s line-up.

What is not clear from though is whether the Sony Vaio P which Verizon will offer will be running Windows 7 since the rumored hard drive will be around 160GB. But the Sony Vaio P doesn’t have that capacity though.

The Sony Vaio P will be offered by Verizon for around $300 plus a two-year service agreement minus $100 rebate.

Scheduled shipping date will be on November 5.

Verizon Wireless has added two HP Mini netbooks to its stable of netbook bundle offerings – the HP Mini 311-1037NR and the HP Mini 110-1046NR. These two netbooks shall come with Verizon’s Mobile Broadband network built-in and give Verizon Wireless customers the ability to access their email accounts or browse the web through Verizon’s Wireless Global Access service plan.

Obviously the reason why Verizon added these netbooks is to join the Windows 7 netbook craze that is just starting to heat up right now. Although only the HP Mini 311 has the Windows 7 installed, the HP Mini 110 could still be a good choice.

Anyway, here are the published specs of the HP Mini 311:

  • 11.6″-diagonal HD LED BrightView widescreen display (1366 x 768)

  • Altec Lansing speakers
  • NVIDIA ION for Windows 7
  • Intel Atom(TM) Processor N270 1.60 GHz
  • 2 GB RAM
  • 160 GB
  • CDMA/1X/EV-DO Revision A: 800/1900 MHz; UMTS/HSPA: 850/1900/2100 MHz; GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
  • Wi-Fi: 802.11 b/g/n
  • HP Webcam with integrated digital microphone
  • Integrated 5-in-1 digital media reader for SD, MultiMedia cards, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, or xD Picture cards

VZW netbook launch sheet
While we’ve already known for a while that Verizon Wireless is planning to launch subsidized WWAN-equipped netbooks (which might include the HP Mini 1000), there still no info on an exact launch date, let alone a final price. So those of you under Verizon who are looking forward to learning more about this may be eager to hear the news I have for you now. According to a leaked internal document, Verizon is going to hold a netbook webinar which will brief employees that managers all about these devices we all know and love as netbooks. It came from an Anonymous source, but it looks pretty legit if you ask us. Though the internal document itself doesn’t indicate a launch date, it could very well be soon. We’ll be updating with more info as we get it.

Verizon Wireless is reportedly prepping to launch its very own subsidized netbook, a device that will be bundled with some form of the carrier’s wireless broadband service. The project doesn’t sound like it’s anywhere near completion, and pricing info isn’t available yet, but a person close to the project is cited to have confirmed this. Verizon already has competition in the form of AT&T as far as selling unsubsidized netbooks isn’t concerned, but the wireless carrier is expected to offer a similar, if not better deal, selling netbooks in the company’s stores, and retail partners who also may stock them. Interestingly, what kind of netbook Verizon is going to sell or from what manufacturer it’s going to come from wasn’t revealed. Perhaps the wireless carrier is aiming to entice potential buyers, with the right price rather than the right brand.

vaio-p-rebate
As a gesture of kindness, Verizon is offering a $200 rebate for early adopters of the Sony Vaio P who shelled out nearly $1000 for this new pocket-sized computer. This rebate comes standard with every Sony Vaio P purchase that requires a 2-year contract with Verizon Wireless. And it should be noted that purchases made after March 31st aren’t qualified for the rebate. That brings down the Sony Vaio P’s price to only $699, but that’s definitely still a lot of money to most people. Do you think that’s a fair enough deal?

Netbooks are great piece of ware for the simple reason that they ought to be portable and can carry them anywhere. So, it is expected that with your netbooks in tow whereever you go, it is a must that you can easily connect online either through wireless network or 3G. Amazingly not all netbooks were released with the 3G option built-in. Some netbooks, like the HP Mini 1000 has the 3G features as an additional option which uses need to pay some good amount of money to have what should have been a default functionality.

Looking at the HP Mini 1000 which was released not so long ago, JKOntherun is reporting that HP is adding the 3G feature to their new netbook as an added option. The catch? Having the 3G feature on your newly bought HP Mini 1000 will cost you $199. This is in addition to the current price tag of the netbook – $399.

If that sounds good to you, and if you’ve been wanting to have the “always on” feature on your netbook, then we will not advised you to stay away form the deal. But if you decide to get the add-on feature, you’ll have a choice between Verizon’s EV-DO or AT&’s HSDPA options. There is actually a 3rd configuration option but it is not clear yet as which carrier is giving it.
