The iPad Mini to Come This Summer, According to Samsung
Apple is planning to launch a new 6 or 7-inch device during the third quarter of 2012. Nicknamed the iPad mini for lack of an official name, the tablet had been revealed by no less than Apple’s number one rival, Samsung in a Samsung Securities document leaked online.
Allegedly, Apple is negotiating with Samsung Mobile Display for the latter to produce flexible or regular AMOLED screens for future Apple products like iPad and iPhone units. However, Apple has not really decided on whether it will use these screens or not. In case it does, Samsung Mobile Display needs to be able to produce more panels than the 54 million it is able to do so every year. The resolution, as well needs to be enhanced.
However, the fact that the rumor comes from Samsung means that it should be taken with a grain of salt. Earlier, Steve Jobs himself stated that the iPad wont be made into smaller units as the 10 incher is the maximum size that the tablet can be enjoyed.
Another company with which Apple is doing negotiations is LG, which may also produce displays for next-generation models of the iPad and iPhone. Apple hasn’t made any official statement regarding these supposed future partnerships.
