The New iPad Mini Now In Testing Phase

A new smaller version of the Apple iPad is now in the testing stage. As to whether this would be released, however, the company has not made any announcement.

Called the iPad Mini, this concept device is expected to have a 7.85-inch screen, a tad smaller than the iPad 2’s 9.7-inch display.

Steve Jobs earlier stated that 10 inches would be the tablet’s minimum size, but that was during the time when people were only getting introduced to tablets. Today, other manufacturers have tablets with 7-inch and 8-inch screens.

Notably, a close competitor of the iPad, the Amazon Kindle Fire, would be closer in size to the iPad mini if Apple pushes through with the device.

The iPad mini is expected to be released sometime during the fourth quarter of 2012. It is not presumed to affect the sales of the new iPad 3, which will be released in March. Moreover, the iPad mini might have a greater impact in the coming year.

The global tablet market will have growth of around 53 percent this year, with sales as high as 94 million units. With its products, Apple would keep dominating the market, perhaps more so with another new product.
