The SHOGO Tablet Has Been Released

Japan just got a new addition to the tablet market – Red Star’s SHOGO tablet was released last August 27. Powered by a Freescale ARM CPU (iMX-37) and having Angstrom Linux as its OS, it is a pleasant surprise. The Linux OS is something different from the usual Android/Windows ch0ices and has its own webkit-based browser, QT development support and a media player.
The SHOGO has a 10.1-inch multi-touch display with 1024×600 pixel resolution. Connectivity options are Ethernet, Wi-Fi b/g and Bluetooth 2.0. It also has an SD card slot, a USB port, and a 2MP camera on its back. Battery life has a maximum of 8 hours. The current price for this baby is around $500 – although it’s currently only available in Japan.
