ah now I have the easy mode editor, and tried to make the changes above, by sticking /usr/bin/swriter under command ...writer won't launch. If I type /usr/bin/swriter in command line openoffice3 writer launches fine, so I know it works, I just can't for the life of me change these icons arrrrrgh

I cannot find easy mode LOL I did everything else upgraded to openoffice 3.0 and openclipart 1.8 very nice... but I can't figure out how to do the last step???

Finally, you will have to edit the Easy mode also. In the easy mode editor, replace the command tabs with the following entries

For Documents, /usr/bin/swriter

For Spreadsheets, /usr/bin/scalc

For Presentations, /usr/bin/simpress
