Vendors not to Keen on Offering Windows 7 Netbooks

It looks like Microsoft may have a hard time marketing its new Windows 7  to netbook vendors. According to Digitimes netbook vendores are  keen on maintaining their netbooks to run on Intel Atom N270 and n280 using Windows XP and may have no plans of adapting Windows 7.

The reason given out by netbook vendors have something to do with the expected price of Windows 7. Quotes from Microsoft for the netbook version of Windows 7 would be around $45-55 compared to Windows XP OEM version of $25-30. This means that if netbook vendors would use Windows 7 on their netbooks, they would be compelled to increase their prices. This is something which the vendors are trying to avoid, especially since the netbook market has been more competitive than ever.

For us netbook users, all hope is not at all lost as netbook vendors are still negotiating with Microsoft to bring down the price of Windows 7.

Never thought about the touch screen features? Windows 7 is prepared for touch screens and the netbook vendors will be able to push an extra markup for the touch functionality. Everybody happy again. Within two years the normal netbooks will be unavailable and everybody will be having smears on their netbook screens, together with Win7.
