WePad Drops the Name, Picks Up WeTab Instead, Surprised?

What was being touted as a would-be Apple iPad competitor has just changed its name from WePad to WeTab.  According to Neofonie, the Germany-based company behind the WePad, the decision to change the name of their tablet device is to differentiate it from other products in the international market for tablet computers.  In case you’re living under the rock, there is only one tablet yet which has the name “pad” on its name – iPad.

Interestingly, the announcement came hot off the heels of Apple’s announcement that iPad will be released international, including in Germany on May 28. Was the decision to change the name influence by Apple or not? Apple does not own the trademark for “pad,” not yet.  But that doesn’t mean that i can’t pressure Neofine to drop the pad from the name of its tablet product.

Anyway, WeTab, WePad or whatever name that Neofine might think of in the future is not really that important. What’s important is what WeTab can offer to the tablet device market.
