Digitimes is running this report from its “channel vendors” predicting that the Eee PC will still lead the race among low-cost PCs, despite the threats of its competitors, the latest of which being HP’s Mini-Note 2133. We all know by know that in terms of storage capacity, the Mini-Note’s 120GB HD. But of course, storage capacity is not the yard stick by which we measure an ultraportable low-cost PCs viability in the market. In fact, HD storage can become irrelevant if we could be contented with portable HD storage and USB flash drive, right?

So, why are we not surprised that Eee  PC will still beat the crap out of its competitors despite having a not so big storage? We couldn’t agree more with the Digitimes report – price, overall performance and battery life are there of Eee’s features that landed itself the top spot in the low-cost PC market.

So, even if HP’s Mini-Note able to come up with an Atom version, I don’t think the Eee PC’s sales and performance would still be affected. Asus could easily come up with its own Atom version as soon as supply of the Atom chips becomes available.

In the technology industry we are all in, timing is very important. And Asustek came into the market with the Eee PC in just about the perfect timing. It would be difficult to beat that.
