Zumo to power HP’s cloud storage service
Netbooks have come a long way since the early days. Most of them can now come with drives of up to 320GB that can store everything your desktop or laptop (or even desklaptop) does, possibly even more. That isn’t stopping HP though. They teamed up with online service ZumoDrive to bring much more storage to their netbook lines.
Many of the entry-level netbooks from HP have very little storage to offer like the paltry 60GB of my HP Mini 1000. But more than storage, having a cloud-based server handling your files makes access much more easier.
The service by HP will be called the CloudDrive and will be using Amazon’s S3 service for the storage solution. Another key strength to note is that the drive will act like a local drive, which makes it easy for networked applications like iTunes and Picasa to work with. It also has an iPhone app so you can grab files on your mobile. Offline access is also provided so your recent and frequently used content will be with you even when you lose your connection.
