So there you go folks. Samsung has officially announced its tablet PC which others call as a solid iPad competitor – the Samsung Galaxy Tab. And from what we can see, it seems like a bigger version of the Samsung Galaxy S smartphone. And just like what was published a couple of days ago, the Galaxy Tab will run Android 2.2, fully supports HD and Flash 10.1 content and most importantly it will be available this month in Italy, while the rest of the world will have their taste of the Galaxy Tab in the coming months.
Interestingly, Samsung is taking carrier-supported route in releasing the Samsung Galaxy Tab. The WSJ is saying that Samsung is negotiating with various carriers all over the world for them to carry the Galaxy Tab. This is understandable since the Samsung Galaxy Tab will have full 3G connectivity support.
Under the hood, the Samsung Galaxy Tab is powered by a Cortex A8 1.0GHz processor, full multimedia support (DivX, Xvid, MPEG3, H.263 and more.
And to make it better than the iPad, Samsung has also put in a front facing camera for video calls as well as a rear-facing camera for taking photos.
Samsung is also gearing up the Galaxy Tab as an e-reader with the Reader Hub applications.
Overall, the Samsung Galaxy Tab will definitely shake down the iPad’s popularity. And with Android 2.2 on-board, I’m pretty sure that Apple haters will be lining up for the Galaxy Tab once it becomes available.
Acer owns the Packard Bell brand so it seems to be no surprise that the latest Packard Bell model look remarkably like the new Acer Aspire One D255. It even features the same specs; it has a 10-inch screen and a 1.5GHz Intel Atom N550 dual core CPU. The base OS is Windows 7 Starter Edition, which is pretty good. The netbook also has a gig of DDR2 memory and a 250GB hard drive. Battery life is set at 7.5 hours – a comfortable enough time to get your work done in the field.
The Packard Bell Dot SE is already available in Europe for 400 Euros. Since Acer already has the D255 in the US market, don’t expect this baby to hit US shores unless its been imported.
Just in time for the upcoming holiday seasons, HP is refreshing two of its popular netbooks with new and more powerful features. We’re talking about the HP Mini 210 and HP Mini 5103. Specifically, HP is loading the HP Mini 5103 with dual-core processor while upgrading the design of the HP Mini 210.
The new HP Mini 5103 which will most probably sell for around $399 will be sporting a 1.5GHz dual-core CPU. This could put the netbook’s performance by up to 200% with draining too much of its battery. Included in the upgrade is HP’s Day Starter instant-on OS and a new “espresso” color for its body.
Meanwhile, the new HP Mini 210 also received its own updates, specifically with a new color designs such as Crimson Red and Ocean Drive. The netbook also now has an integrated battery and chassis. Other specs and features of the new HP Mini 210 include – chicklet keyboard, Broadcom Crystal Accelerator, single core Atom CPU, 6-cell battery life and a $330 price point.
Up until now, it wasn’t sure when and how exactly Samsung plans to launch its first dual core Atom N550-wielding netbook. But apparently, they will be including this new chip from Intel in their new NF series netbooks, which incidentally, also take the company in a new netbook design direction. The Samsung NF netbooks have a curvey new design that starts thick at the back part and finishes thin towards the front. It’s not guaranteed to be liked by everyone who will see it, but at least the netbooks look different.
The Samsung NF series comprises of the Samsung NF310, Samsung NF210 and Samsung NF110. All the info available at the moment say that at least one of them has the upcoming dual core Intel Atom N550 chip, DDR3 memory, an HD (1366×768) widescreen display and a pre-installed version of Windows 7. For now, pricing info and exact release dates are unknown, but the press release states that the NF series netbooks will be available in Europe in October and then expanded globally.
